Introduction to the tropolink video series. Tropolink is a web application allowing the user to compute and explore connectivity between distant geographic locations generated by the movement of air masses.

00:00The movement of airmasses within the atmosphere creates air highways that connect distant

00:10locations on local, continental and global scales. At INRAE, we have developed an approach,

00:19along with the web application called Tropolink, to measure how distant locations are potentially

00:25connected through air mass movements. The Tropolink web app allows users to build and quantify the

00:32geographic networks generated by these air highways. In this series of tutorial videos,

00:38we will explain how to use Tropolink, how to prepare input data and how to analyze Tropolink

00:45outputs. Tropolink outputs are sets of air mass trajectories which are transparently generated

00:52by high-split software and connectivity matrices computed from these trajectories. By the way,

00:59let us explain what Tropolink stands for. Tropol refers to the troposphere, the lower layer of

01:07the atmosphere, extending from the ground to an altitude of 10 to 18 kilometers, depending on

01:13latitude and season. The troposphere carries many particles and small organisms that are of interest

01:21for us. Link refers to the weighted and directed edges connecting the nodes in the geographic networks
