00:00Eurogroup President and Irish Finance Minister Pascal Donoghue welcomed the move of the United
00:06States and China agreeing to drastically roll back tariffs for 90 days.
00:11In an exclusive interview with Euronews, he called it a promising development for EU-US
00:17relations.
00:18It's extremely encouraging.
00:20It is also a reminder of the volatility of the era that we are in.
00:25But amidst that volatility, China and the US clearly recognizing the value of trade and
00:32how that particular trade relationship can have such a significant effect on the performance
00:38of their own economies.
00:40And I see that as being a positive signal, but it's also very obvious there's a whole
00:45lot of work that now has to flow from that, particularly then in terms of the engagement
00:51that the EU has with the US.
00:54When it comes to the ongoing negotiations between the EU and the US on tariffs, the
00:59Irish Finance Minister approves the European Commission's gradual approach as it seeks to
01:04build a consensus.
01:06And he clearly opposes the idea of the EU targeting digital services.
01:11Ireland and I have long-standing concerns regarding the role and use of digital services taxes, and
01:18my sense is that in the debate that is now taking place at the moment, it is understood
01:23as an option, but it's also understood as an option that could have very significant consequences.
01:30Donohue also believes on the development of the digital dimension of the European single
01:35market.
