U.S President Donald Trump has hinted he may fly to Turkey later this week to join the high-stakes peace talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. With ceasefire hopes hanging in the balance, Trump says he “might be there” if his presence can help broker a deal. The potential visit could mark a major turning point in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, as Trump pushes for a breakthrough in negotiations.

00:00Thursday's meeting with Russia and Ukraine is very important.
00:04I think good things can come out of that meeting.
00:06More than 5,000 soldiers, Russian.
00:08They're not American soldiers, they're from Russia,
00:10they're from Ukraine, but they're people.
00:12And they're being killed at levels that we haven't seen
00:14since the Second World War.
00:16And it's every week.
00:18President Erdogan is going to be a great host.
00:20Some work with him having to do with Syria, too,
00:23because we want to give them a fresh start.
00:25But I think you may have a good result
00:27out of the Thursday meeting in Turkey
00:29between Russia and Ukraine.
00:31Three primary countries, you know all about that.
00:33Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar.
00:38On Thursday's meeting with Russia and Ukraine is very important.
00:44I was very insistent that that meeting take place.
00:47I think good things can come out of that meeting.
00:50Stop the bloodshed of the horrible — it's a bloodbath.
00:56But 5,000 more. It's really much more —
00:59I'm trying to be conservative — more than 5,000 soldiers.
01:02Russian — they're not American soldiers.
01:04They're from Russia, they're from Ukraine, but they're people.
01:07They're human souls.
01:08And they're being killed at levels that we haven't seen
01:11since the Second World War.
01:13And it's every week — a lot of drone fighting.
01:17It's a whole new form of warfare, and it's violent and vicious.
01:20And so that's it.
01:24President Erdogan is going to be a great host.
01:27And we are doing some work with him — having to do with Syria, too, by the way.
01:34We're going to have to make a decision on the sanctions,
01:36which we may very well relieve.
01:38We may take them off of Syria because we want to give them a fresh start.
01:43But President Erdogan has asked me about that.
01:46Many people have asked me about that, because the way we have them sanctioned,
01:49it doesn't really give them much of a start.
01:51So we want to see if we can help them out.
01:54So we'll make that determination.
01:56But I think you're going to have maybe a good meeting.
01:58You have the potential for a good meeting — that a meeting wasn't going to take place.
02:01I insisted that that meeting take place.
02:03And it is taking place. And I think you may have a good result out of the Thursday meeting in Turkey
02:09between Russia and Ukraine. And I believe the two leaders were going to be there.
02:14I was thinking about flying over. I don't know where I'm going to be on Thursday.
02:17I've got so many meetings. But I was thinking about actually flying over there.
02:22There's a possibility of it, I guess, if I think things can happen.
02:25But we've got to get it done. We've got to save 5,000 lives a week.
02:285,000 lives is really more than that. It's worse than that.
02:30And when you see the — and you don't want to see it — but when you see the
02:34satellite photographs of the battlefield with arms and legs and heads all over the place,
02:40separated by 30 yards from bodies, it's not — does it make sense? It doesn't make sense.
02:49So we're working very hard to see if we can end that bloodbath.
