00:00We did not expect any of this, and we couldn't be prouder to be Americans today.

00:04I'm so happy that this new pope is un-American.

00:13It wasn't expected. It absolutely wasn't expected.

00:17It was not something I really hoped for.

00:19I was hoping maybe for Cardinal Tagli or an Italian, or I thought.

00:24But I'm proud. I'm very proud an American walked out and surprised us all.

00:29But, you know, these conflives, that's what they do. They surprise us.

00:32And the Cardinals are guided by the Holy Spirit, and here we are.

00:36So I wish them very well.

00:37It was very unexpected, but nonetheless, we are excited.

00:40As I know, everybody back in the United States is also equally as excited as we are.

00:54Well, we started crying and hugging and just shocked and just so happy.

00:59I was shocked. To be honest, I was shocked. I didn't believe it.

01:03Still, it's really hard for me to believe right now that he's an American.

01:06It's just something I can't describe to be an American Catholic who's in St. Peter's Square

01:12and gets to watch an American walk out when the Cardinals opened that curtain.

01:20I expect him to continue to open up the church, to continue to build a bigger tent to let more

01:31people in, and instead of denying access to others. I think the Pope should continue to

01:36show compassion.

01:38We're proud to be from the United States, but we are even prouder today that we could say

01:42that the Pope is also from the United States.
