Here’s The New ‘GTA 6’ Release Date After Its Big Delay

The biggest game of 2025 is no longer coming out in 2025. In a move that is not all that much of a shock, except perhaps to investors, Take-Two and Rockstar have announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be out in the fall of 2025 as promised, but just over a year from now instead.

That makes the new GTA 6 release date May 26, 2025, so we finally have a date, but one many months after it was originally planned, and close to halfway through next year (barring any further delays, which is not impossible). Here’s the statement that Rockstar issued to announce the news:

Fans have noted that right about now is when we would be getting a second trailer for GTA 6, based on past releases, but now with that delay that should no longer be an expectation. Past fans not being able to play it later, this has huge ramifications for the entire industry, given that this is going to be quite literally the biggest video game release of all time.

Getting out of 2025 entirely means that now a host of games can finally commit to dates past the select few in September or extremely early October we’ve seen, which will include the likes of Call and Duty and others. It’s a relief for publishers and developers they won’t have to do battle with GTA 6 this holiday season, and better yet, there is an actual release date now, May 26, 2026, meaning that will be easy to avoid as well. I would expect essentially no releases in June 2026, as a result.
