00:00What is the reason for a election?

00:05One issue that came up in this election

00:08is the mixing of race and religion with politics.

00:13This was not just about foreign interference

00:16because online there were also many negative

00:19and even toxic comments by Singaporeans

00:23encouraging people to vote along racial lines.

00:29I had to call it out in the middle of the campaign because this was such an important matter

00:35the situation did improve after that

00:38but there were still views going comments online

00:43and some of it was quite vicious and they continued to circulate

00:47although less than before the press conference I held

00:53but I am heartened that all political parties made clear their stance in this campaign

01:00to reject identity politics and reaffirm their commitment to multiculturalism

01:08and the election results show that Singaporeans by and large reject identity politics

01:15and continue to support a multiracial and multireligious society

01:22I am grateful for your support

01:25and to all communities in Singapore I say
