Japan tariff talks with US continue as automakers lose millions

Japan's top economic negotiator said on Friday (May 2) that tariff negotiations with the United States covered how Japan can expand trade, non-tariff measures and economic security cooperation.

Ryosei Akazawa spoke to reporters in Washington D.C. after meeting US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Currently, American tariffs are costing one Japanese automaker "a million dollars every hour", Akazawa said.
