David Beckham's 50th birthday: from Manchester to Miami

The England icon, who starred for Manchester United and Real Madrid, is now co-owner of MLS club Inter Miami.

00:00I remember Dave, he's a little blond-haired, spiky kid.

00:03Very good, always had the ball at his feet, always carrying the ball.

00:06If he'd have said to me when he was younger,

00:08that boy's going to go on and do what he's done in football, I'd have gone, yeah, okay.

00:11I've been so lucky throughout my career, a career that lasted for 22 years

00:15and I was able to play for some of the best teams,

00:18with some of the best players and some of the best managers in the game.

00:22It's amazing how these people grow up and they've got the mentality.

00:25You look back at his career playing for the biggest clubs in the world,

00:29he was a legend.

00:32We were playing for the club we loved,

00:34we were playing in a city that we loved

00:36and we obviously won a lot of trophies,

00:37so it was an amazing time and I feel very privileged to have been part of his career.

00:59It never gets old. I've been able to play in quite a few finals and championship games

01:06and I still love it like I did when I won my first.

01:11You look at the Premier League and you look at that list of players in the Hall of Fame,

01:27I think it shows the impact that he had and the quality of his performance

01:31and the level of his performance.

01:33When you think about the Premier League, you think about iconic moments,

01:49you think about the best players without a shadow of a doubt.

01:52He's scored some of the best goals, he's produced some of the best performances

01:55and he's played for one of the best teams.

01:57At about 12 years old, you know, I was told that I would never play for my country.

02:03I made 115 appearances for my country, I captained my country, I played in three World Cups

02:13and I had a pretty good career.

02:20We had David Beckham over here, which was one of the best signings that MLS ever made

02:24for notoriety around the world.

02:26His influence was pretty good for the league.

02:29The league has expanded since then.

02:32He helped the Galaxy win a number of championships.

02:35David Beckham has been a tremendous influence for the sport in this country.

02:39I always wanted to give back to the game.

02:41My dream was always to own a team.

02:43I would say it's been the hardest challenge, actually, in my career and in my business,

02:49but the most rewarding.
