00:30the idea of doing a documentary on Spock

00:32as a part of the celebration of the

00:34anniversary of the original series

00:35and the minute I suggested this to dad

00:37he was in

00:39when word came out today that actor

00:41Leonard Nimoy had died the president

00:44said I love Spock

00:46I started acting about eight years old

00:51and suddenly decided that I liked it enough to want to make a career of it

00:54so I came to California in 1949

00:55I loved Leonard

00:57Leonard and I came from a lot of similar backgrounds

01:00he was a multifaceted individual

01:03he was never just Spock to me

01:04even growing up

01:05he had a ubiquitous curiosity

01:08about everything going on in the world

01:11prior to Star Trek

01:12I never had a job that lasted longer than two weeks

01:15never, two weeks

01:16people ask me what it was like living with Spock

01:19and for the most part during that period

01:22he'd come home at night

01:23eat his dinner, memorize his lines

01:25and then just go to sleep

01:26he was trying so hard to get this career going

01:29it took a toll on his family life

01:31that he was occasionally Leonard-like

01:34but mostly he was Spock

01:35everyone feels a little bit like an outsider

01:39I would argue the most interesting people seem to

01:41I think people recognize themselves in him

01:44one of the things that I really respect about your dad

01:47was his love and affection for the fans

01:48to create a character

01:54who leaves a mark on the society

01:57that strikes a chord that resonates

01:59Leonard Nimoy did that

02:01Leonard was a self-made renaissance man

02:05he made the world stand up and listen

02:09fascinating

02:11if there was a word you would use

02:15to sum up or describe my dad

02:17what would that be for you?

02:21the first word that does come to mind is love

02:24it's definitely just love

02:26I have been and always shall be your friend
