00:00Over the past few days, there's been a flurry of exciting AI developments,
00:06from unveiling the Vidoo AI model challenging Sora,
00:09to Apple exploring partnerships with OpenAI for new iPhone features,
00:13and Google launching an AI photo editing tool.
00:16Meanwhile, Microsoft is enhancing Windows with its new AI Explorer,
00:20and Italy is stepping up with pioneering AI laws, so let's talk about this.
00:25At this year's Zhongguangkun Forum in Beijing,
00:28they introduced an incredible new AI model named Vidoo,
00:31which was developed by Shengshu AI in collaboration with Tsinghua University.
00:35What's cool about Vidoo is that it can generate 16-second video clips in crystal-clear 1080p,
00:42just by responding to a simple text prompt.
00:44It's set up to go head-to-head with OpenAI's Sora,
00:47marking a big stride for China in the competitive world of generative AI.
00:51They're really pushing to lead the pack in cutting-edge technology.
00:54The tech at the heart of Vidoo combines the best of both worlds in AI technology,
00:59transformers and diffusion models.
01:01This blend allows Vidoo to produce videos that are not just sharp,
01:05but also incredibly lifelike, featuring intricate facial expressions and dynamic lighting effects.
01:10But what makes Vidoo really stand out is its unique focus on Chinese cultural elements.
01:15It's tailored to include iconic symbols like pandas and the mythical loong, dragon,
01:20which really resonates with Chinese content creators and audiences.
01:24This isn't just a technological breakthrough, it's a strategic move, too.
01:28It underscores China's ambition to advance in AI while also staying true to its cultural roots.
01:33With its ability to create such realistic and culturally rich videos,
01:37Vidoo is redefining the standards for AI-generated media
01:41and showcasing the innovation happening within China's AI scene.
01:45Alright, now Apple has started talking to OpenAI again about using the startup's technology
01:50and new iPhone features set to launch later this year.
01:52These conversations are picking up after a previous discussion earlier in the year,
01:56which didn't lead to much.
01:57Apple is also talking to Google about possibly using Google's Gemini chatbot.
02:02It's not decided yet which tech partners Apple will go with,
02:05and it's still uncertain if any deal will happen at all.
02:08They might end up making deals with both OpenAI and Google,
02:11which would be very exciting for iPhone users.
02:14The upcoming version of the iPhone's operating system will have some new features that use Apple's own AI software.
02:20But Apple is also looking to include a chatbot feature similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT
02:25and is searching for partners to help with this.
02:27News about these talks first came out in March through a Bloomberg report,
02:31and another company, Anthropic, has also been part of these discussions.
02:35All this is happening as Apple gets ready for its Worldwide Developers Conference in about a month and a half,
02:40where the company plans to show off new AI software and services.
02:44They aim to make these new features work really well with Apple devices
02:47and to offer stronger privacy than other AI tools.
02:50Last year, Apple's CEO mentioned he uses OpenAI's ChatGPT himself,
02:55but he also noted there were several problems that needed to be fixed.
02:58Okay, now Google is making some major moves to improve AI for everyone.
03:02The tech giant has recently filed a trademark for a new AI photography feature named RealPhil.
03:07Developed in collaboration with researchers from Cornell University,
03:10RealPhil allows users to expand and repair existing images by leveraging up to five reference images.
03:17This tech wants to deliver more realistic and accurate outcomes compared to older image completion methods.
03:23The tool can add missing details or fix damaged sections in photographs,
03:27making it an especially useful addition for users of Google's Pixel smartphones
03:32or those who use the Google Photos application.
03:34Now, Google is making its newest AI features available on older phones, too.
03:39They just announced that their Gemini app will work on Android devices
03:43that are still on older versions like Android 10 and 11.
03:46They said that they are doing this to make sure that even older devices stay up to date
03:52and their users can enjoy the newest tech no matter how old their phone is.
03:56Across the ocean in the UK,
03:58Google has been proactive in rolling out these AI features,
04:01following up on Samsung's own announcements.
04:03Samsung recently updated its Galaxy S23 range with new AI features
04:08and subsequently extended these updates to the Galaxy S22 series.
04:12Google's approach mirrors this by expanding access to the Gemini app,
04:16thus enhancing user experience across a broader range of devices.
04:20Alright, next.
04:21AI Explorer is a new feature coming to Windows 11
04:24that will make everything on your computer searchable.
04:26It will help you summarize emails
04:28and do tasks like removing the background from images.
04:31Now, Microsoft has been adding AI features to Windows lately
04:35and AI Explorer is getting a lot of attention.
04:37It could be a big reason people buy AI-powered PCs
04:41There's a report that Microsoft will introduce AI Explorer
04:45at a special event for Windows on May 20th.
04:48But it might only be available on computers
04:50with the new Snapdragon X series CPU from Qualcomm.
04:53This CPU has a neural processing unit
04:55that lets the computer handle AI tasks on its own
04:58without needing to send data to the cloud.
05:00Now, AI Explorer is expected to make Windows 11 smarter
05:03by being aware of the context of what you're doing.
05:06It could make everything you do on your PC searchable,
05:08even across different apps.
05:10This means you could look up web pages you've visited,
05:12images you've opened, or even find parts of conversations.
05:16It could also summarize web pages, emails,
05:18and conversations right on your computer.
05:20This would be quicker than using cloud-based AI tools
05:23because it processes everything locally.
05:25You could choose to stop certain apps
05:27from being monitored by AI Explorer
05:28or turn off the monitoring completely if you prefer.
05:31The feature will have a user interface that appears
05:34at the top of your screen.
05:35It will track what you do and make it searchable.
05:38For example, you could ask it to show you conversations
05:40about the Fallout TV show,
05:42and it will find those chats for you.
05:44And it isn't just a search tool.
05:45It can also analyze what's on your screen
05:47and suggest actions,
05:48like removing an image background
05:50with a single click using Paint.
05:52A feature called Screen Understanding
05:54could help you write email replies
05:55or compare documents using Microsoft Copilot.
05:58Besides AI Explorer,
06:00Microsoft is working on other features too,
06:02like live captions and translation in real time,
06:05enhancing games with better visuals
06:07and smoother frame rates,
06:08and new Windows Studio effects.
06:10Alright, now, on April 24th, 2024,
06:13Italy became the first country to introduce
06:15a set of laws specifically for artificial intelligence.
06:19The Italian government approved new rules
06:21that focus on making sure AI is used safely
06:24and helps Italy stay competitive in this technology.
06:26The laws cover five main areas,
06:28national strategy, oversight authorities,
06:31promotional efforts,
06:32copyright protection,
06:33and criminal penalties.
06:34They also aim to make sure Italian rules
06:36line up with European Union standards,
06:38especially concerning how people learn about AI,
06:41job training,
06:42and updating criminal laws for AI-related crimes.
06:44Alessio Butti, Italy's Innovation Undersecretary,
06:47mentioned that these laws align with the EU's AI Act
06:50and were discussed with other G7 countries.
06:52He explained that the laws clearly set out
06:54who will develop strategies,
06:55oversee, inform, and enforce AI regulations.
06:58The legislation establishes two national authorities for AI
07:01within the Digital Italy Agency
07:03and the National Cybersecurity Agency.
07:05These bodies will oversee the application
07:07and implementation of both national and EU AI laws.
07:11The new rules also try to attract AI talent to Italy
07:14by offering tax breaks to Italians who return from abroad.
07:17They include a plan to invest 1 billion euros
07:20to support small Italian businesses in using AI.
07:23With the upcoming EU elections,
07:24Italy is also focusing on preventing harmful AI-generated content.
07:29The Justice Minister, Carlo Nordio,
07:31stated that anyone spreading fake AI-created images or videos
07:35without permission could face one to five years in jail.
07:38Furthermore, sneaky uses of AI will be considered
07:41a serious additional crime in cases like identity theft,
07:44price manipulation, fraud, and money laundering.
07:47Meanwhile, researchers at Sapienza University
07:49are working on new Italian language AI models called Minerva.
07:53These models are being developed from scratch,
07:55using a large amount of Italian and English texts,
07:58and are meant to be open to the scientific community
08:01and soon the public.
08:02Alright, don't forget to hit that subscribe button for more updates.
08:05Thanks for tuning in and we'll catch you in the next one.
