YEP rugby league writer Peter Smith reflects on Leeds Rhinos' agonising home loss to Hull KR in a game marred by two red cards and a sin-binning.
Transcript
00:00Well it's been some game here at AMT Headingley tonight which Leeds Rhinos
00:05have lost 20 points to 14 against the Super League leaders Hull KR. Fantastic
00:10contest between two teams who went toe-to-toe slugged it out for for the
00:1580 minutes. Leeds were 14 points to six up with 15 minutes to go and it looked
00:19like they were going to get a very valuable victory but Hull KR massive
00:24credit to them they found a way to win which is what champion sides do and
00:29teams at the top of the league do. They scored three tries in the last 15 minutes
00:32and it finished four tries to two so they'll feel they thoroughly deserve the
00:38victory. The game of course was rather overshadowed by some officiating two
00:43sendings off in the last quarter both of which I thought were harsh and a
00:48sin binning in the opening few minutes for Leeds. Ash Hanley and Jesse
00:54Sioux on Hull KR's side were both sent off. Sinfield was sin binned as I say in
01:00the early stages and Hull KR's first try actually came against 11 men because
01:04Jake Connor the Leeds standoff was off the field with a green card for
01:1110 for two minutes because he'd had treatment for a finger injury played on
01:17bravely but had to go off for a couple minutes and Leeds conceded while they were
01:22down to 11 so that was harsh hard on them they also lost Ryan Hall to what
01:27could be a long-term ankle injury so potentially a costly night for Leeds
01:32but lots to be encouraged about they scored a couple of excellent tries
01:35Riley Lund's try off from 1-2 with Hanley was was world-class they defended
01:40really well for most of the game just obviously lost it a little bit in the
01:45last 10 minutes but a lot of encouraging signs Brad Arthur's press conference he said
01:50Leeds need to learn how to hang on and win these games once they get into a into a
01:54good position like they did tonight and that's the big lesson for them now it
01:58happened at Warrington a few weeks ago it's happened again tonight once Leeds
02:03can get over that hurdle and just just learn how to see out these games when
02:07they're ahead there'll be a decent side I think
