00:01You may have heard her sing on the Goldbergs before, and fantastic voice, but I'm loving this.
00:08Please welcome to our studio, Haley Orantia.
00:12Yeah!
00:13Thank you so much.
00:14Morning, Haley.
00:15Hi.
00:16So, yeah, we've seen you do some singing on the Goldbergs, but this is you doing the real thing.
00:22And you write this music as well, don't you?
00:24I do.
00:25It's really funny, because now that I've been going on this tour, I've had a lot of people who are fans of the show come out,
00:29and they're like, I thought you were going to be doing a lot of 80s covers.
00:32You know, I can do other things.
00:34Well, I was surprised to read, because I thought, oh, this is kind of cool.
00:38I guess this, you know, when the show first came on, I guess this actress has some aspirations of singing,
00:43and then only to do research on you, and singing was it, music was your deal,
00:48and acting has seemed to have sort of been a conduit towards getting your music out,
00:52because you go back, what, you were singing since you were a little kid,
00:56I think composing songs when you were 12, 13, right?
01:00Yeah, kind of.
01:00I mean, I wouldn't necessarily say they were radio hits by any means.
01:03But still.
01:04Yeah.
01:04So, and then you've come up through, as I was doing research, you worked with the people,
01:10you were a backup singer for Demi Lovato.
01:12Well, in some ways.
01:13Yeah, in some ways.
01:14I did, I recorded a lot of, like, Disney Channel-type soundtrack, like, background vocals,
01:20so there was, like, a Camp Rock 2.
01:21Right.
01:22But that's, that's, there's a lot of.
01:23I'll count it.
01:24It all counts, damn it.
01:25Yeah.
01:26I love Camp Rock 2.
01:27That's resume worthy.
01:28You might get a kick out of this story, because I know you're going to be going around Jankintown today.
01:32You're going to hit some stops and see some of the sights of this, you know, this family,
01:36the member that you've been portraying that lives in that area.
01:39It's going to be kind of cool to see it, but we had Tim Meadows in the studio last year,
01:44and he's been by here before, and he's a great guy.
01:45He's a lot of fun, and we were talking to him about the Goldbergs, and he was, there was,
01:50the Phillies were playing, and we said something along the lines of,
01:53I can't believe they haven't asked you to throw out the first pitch.
01:56I mean, we were like, you know, the Goldbergs is in Jankintown.
01:58It's right here in Philadelphia.
01:59He didn't know that the show took place in this area.
02:04He had no.
02:04He had no idea.
02:06You know, Tim comes on when he needs to come on.
02:09He's not there all the time.
02:11But now that they're doing, I don't know if y'all know, they're doing a spinoff in the 90s.
02:14He better know now.
02:15Yeah, everyone is really, really sharp, and so that's got to be a great atmosphere
02:19to, you know, explore your comedic side.
02:23And then with Adam, and I assume everybody else, it's a very nurturing thing.
02:26Um, what I really love is that you, you, you're making references to pop culture that predates
02:33you, and yet you really, you really come out as very enthusiastic about it.
02:38And one episode in particular struck home here.
02:40Preston is a massive Rush fan.
02:42Uh, yes.
02:43Yeah.
02:43That was so cool when you guys did that episode.
02:46I loved doing that episode.
02:47Did you really?
02:48Because I, we, I had a family friend of ours who was obsessed with Rush, like kind of tattooed
02:52on his leg, obsessed, right?
02:53And I like was familiar with it, but I didn't, I couldn't name a single song until we were
02:58doing this episode.
02:59And me and AJ, who plays Lainey, um, and, uh, the girl who plays Carla, we all kind of
03:04got together and we did this song and I'm like, wait a minute, I think I like Rush.
03:10We had such a good time on that episode.
03:12That's cool.
03:12And it came off good.
03:14There's been a number of different things from a little, uh, a little shop of horrors and
03:17different musically, you've gotten to do a lot of different things.
03:19Have you picked up besides Rush and interest in some of, uh, uh, the other music that you've
03:25done, uh, that you weren't familiar with before?
03:27Yeah.
03:27I'm trying to think of specific ones.
03:29Well, the Hooters are from Philadelphia.
03:30And so you guys, there was the episode where there was the Hooters show and they were actually
03:35in that episode, which was phenomenal.
03:36And as Steve has pointed out, it wasn't exactly a tight closeup on those guys.
03:40Right.
03:40They had some wigs to remember them with their hair originally.
03:44But, um, I actually loved that band because they, they did get to play live in front of us
03:49for that scene, as well as, you know, doing a prerecorded, but when they were playing,
03:52I was like, Oh my God, this band is awesome.
03:54That's cool.
03:55I totally get why they had them here.
03:56They're awesome.
03:57He gave us a couple of CDs.
03:58And so now we're big Hooters fans.
