Hi, in this video, we are going to go over how to create an opportunity and how you can

edit information in that opportunity and manage the deal as it progresses through the different

stages.

So let's jump right in.

There are two ways to create an opportunity in Salesforce.

The first is when we convert a lead into an account, a contact, and an opportunity.

We've gone over this in a previous video around lead conversion.

The second way that you can create an opportunity in Salesforce is through an account.

And this is where we're going to be focusing for this video.

So for the purpose of this demonstration, you can see I'm logged in as Julie, who is an AE.

And we are currently on an account page.

And the name of the company is Fast Cars.

So in order to create an opportunity or a deal, think of accounts as sort of the backbone of which

it's created.

Since deals are always associated with an account, accounts form the foundational pieces

required for you to create deals.

So if you go into any account page, you will see in the top right corner that there is a

create opportunity button.

And we're going to use this in order to create opportunities whenever we are not doing so

using the lead conversion process.

Now, the advantage of doing this is that when you create an opportunity from an account page,

it automatically associates the opportunity to that account and pre-fills some information

needed for you to be able to create that opportunity.

So let's see how this looks in practice.

As soon as I create it, I can see that the account name has already been populated based

off of the account that we are on.

And we can see a collection of some other fields, some of which are marked required by

the red asterisk, some of which are not.

It's always best practice to fill in as much information related to a deal as possible.

But the red asterisk are sort of meant to be a guidance for use in order for you to know

what the absolute mandatory fields are.

So let's go ahead and fill in some information.

So you can also see at this point that the market has also been pre-populated based on the market

for the account that we are creating this opportunity from.

So we're going to go ahead now that we're ready and click save.

So clicking into the opportunity that we've just created, we can see that the opportunity has

been named automatically based on the information that I have entered.

This is meant to standardize the process for you and make it easier for you to not to adhere rather

to a standard or convention defined.

In addition to that, you can see a number of other fields spread out into different sections

which are collapsible and going through and working on a deal from start to finish.

You'll be able to fill out as much of these fields as you need.

So in order to create, edit an opportunity or update the information that's already there,

we can do it in two ways.

We can hit the edit button in the top right corner, or we can click the pencil icon beside any field.

Now you'll notice some fields don't have this pencil icon.

This means that these are not editable and maybe are calculated based off of a formula

or an automation that we have running in the background.

You can see at the top that we have predefined some stages pertaining to an opportunity or a deal.

And as you work on a deal, you can progress the deal through these stages until it finally gets to a closed stage.

In order to change a stage, we can, of course, click the pencil icon beside the stage field and select from the drop down.

Alternatively, we can also simply click on the path, what we call in Salesforce,

and click on the appropriate stage and mark as proposed.

And you'll see that we have some validations running in the background,

which require you to take some actions before moving a deal to the stage.

We'll go to this later, but this is how you will be able to move a stage back and forth

while you're working on an opportunity as well.
