00:00The seed of an idea came to owners Mark and Christina Cleary in 1990, an eight-by-six-foot
00:06greenhouse selling plants on the old Midland Railway route from Brecon to Hereford.
00:11My mum and dad started off in a lay-by before I was born. We've done 35 years, I'm still
00:17young, we're still young. What's the next 35 years, what are we going to do, what are
00:23we going to change and keep pushing?
00:2535 years later, the offshoots of continued success have seen the perennial venture flourish
00:30into a destination garden centre. Now, the family-run business are celebrating the opening of their
00:36brand-new plant area and entrance, with people queuing from as early as 8am.
00:41Three, two, one.
00:48With a nod back to their roots, visitors can now walk into a fully functioning plant area,
00:53where they can browse a whole range of plants.
00:55Like, we're doing this for their experience and they really appreciate it. Like, people
00:59coming in today were just, like, thanking us for doing it. It's just, that's lovely to see.
01:03Like, yeah, it's really chuffed.
01:05About 9.30, 10 o'clock this morning, I was just kind of stood back and just looked at everyone
01:10and just kind of, it was overwhelming, but I can't stop looking around and smiling at the place.
01:16So I'm really happy of how we have this plan and these, this vision, but at the same time,
01:22as you're looking at your plan and your vision, you're like, well, how is this going to come together?
01:26Well, spring excitement is most definitely in the ear today at the old Royal Railroad Garden Centre,
01:31as celebrity gardener David Dominey opens the brand-new extension for the first time to the public.
01:36But it's not the first time that he's been here to show this garden centre his support.
01:40Family businesses that are run with a focus, with their customers in mind,
01:48they become very special places to visit, so I'm delighted to be here.
01:52It's one of the only house plants that you leave sitting in water. Water it with rainwater.
01:58Known for his television appearances on This Morning and a regular presenter on Love Your Garden
02:03alongside Alan Titchmarsh, David Dominey gave an inspiring talk to those looking for gardening tips.
02:08I'm looking at this huge investment that looks a bit railway stationist, doesn't it,
02:17with the slight arches there, perfectly in character, making it more comfortable for people to shop,
02:24making it easier for the plants and easy accessibility around. I find that type of
02:30investment a very positive thing for the community. What do you think, you know, coming in here and seeing it?
02:36It's amazing. Amazing. Yes. Yes. We wouldn't just come in so we haven't seen after. No, it's lovely.
02:42Excellent job. I was here a few weeks ago and, you know, they've done wonders in a short time. Yes.
02:47Happy to see the expansion, more growth for the business. Yes. More growth for the local people,
02:52work, everything goes with it. Yeah. The genuine love of plants inform every decision made by the
02:58hardy founders of the old railway line garden centre, who aim to ensure the business will continue to blossom.
