00:00Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today, we're counting down our picks for the times Disney, for better or worse,
00:11essentially copied and pasted entire scenes from their animated classics into their live-action remakes.
00:24Number 10. Floating Along the River, The Jungle Book.
00:27Before Hakuna Matata, there was The Bare Necessities.
00:31All you gotta do is look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities.
00:39Forget about your worries and your strife.
00:42While teaching Mowgli to take it easy, Baloo lets him float down the river on his belly like a built-in raft.
00:48Clearly, the live-action creators couldn't resist creating this visual in their version of the song.
00:53It's almost a copy-paste, CGI aside.
00:55Because let me tell you something, little wretches.
00:59If you act like that bee acts, uh-uh, you're working too hard.
01:04The biggest difference is that 1967 Mowgli takes bare necessities to another level, lying down without a care.
01:11While 2016 Mowgli sits up, drumming on Baloo's belly and splashing around like he's helping steer.
01:16The essence stays the same, a kid, a bear, and a river.
01:20Because some Disney moments are just too classic to leave out.
01:23Or, as Baloo would say, a bare necessity.
01:26When you look under the rocks and plants, and then take a glance at them fancy ants, and then maybe try a few?
01:33Mmm, mmm!
01:35The bare necessities of life have come to you.
01:37Number 9.
01:39Baby Mine.
01:40Dumbo.
01:40It's like Disney watched this scene and thought, how can we make it even more devastating?
01:45Baby Mine, don't you cry.
01:50This time, the song is sung beautifully by Sharon Rooney, who plays Miss Atlantis, a new character.
01:57But the sentiment stays the same.
01:59Little Dumbo finds his mom locked up, and she comforts him with her trunk.
02:03And did they really have to make live-action Dumbo well up like that?
02:06As if animated Dumbo's tear wasn't already soul-crushing.
02:11Let those eyes sparkle and shine.
02:15Never a tear, baby of mine.
02:19Sure, this is one of the film's most famous and heartbreaking moments.
02:23But come on, Disney, you didn't have to do us like that.
02:25Turns out, even heartbreak hits harder in CGI.
02:38Number 8.
02:40Part of Your World Reprise.
02:41The Little Mermaid.
02:42As one of the most recognizable and beloved songs in The Little Mermaid, we expected nods to the original.
02:48But not necessarily a frame-for-frame remake.
02:51Just you and me.
02:53And I could be part of your world.
02:59Part of Your World lets Halle Bailey make the moment her own.
03:02Though we still caught some homages to some classic shots.
03:05The reprise, however.
03:07Well, see it for yourself.
03:08It's almost like the live-action team traced the original and just dropped Bailey in.
03:12What would I do to see you smiling at me?
03:20Don't get us wrong.
03:21We'd have caused a storm bigger than Ursula's if they skipped that iconic image of Ariel on the rock with waves crashing behind her.
03:27But watching this, we couldn't help but think,
03:29haven't we been part of this world before?
03:31Number 7.
03:45Taking the Lamp.
03:46Aladdin.
03:47Unlike some live-action remakes,
03:49Aladdin stays true to the animated classic.
03:51Just from a new fantastic point of view.
03:54Still, some moments are simply too shining, shimmering, splendid to leave out.
04:06There are only so many ways to show a magic carpet soaring, tumbling, freewheeling.
04:10Okay, enough Whole New World references.
04:12The real copy-paste moment comes when Aladdin picks up the lamp.
04:16While his 1992 counterpart's climb is a bit smoother,
04:19the moment he grabs the lamp is nearly identical.
04:21The camera angle might differ, but everything else is the same.
04:31And of course, in both versions, it's Abu's eye for treasure that sends everything crashing down.
04:37Never change, Abu.
04:38Abu! No!
04:42Infinance!
04:43You have touched the forbidden treasure!
04:47No, you will never again see the light of death!
04:57Number 6.
04:59The Donkey Transformation.
05:01Pinocchio.
05:01Because who doesn't want to relive their childhood trauma in live-action, right?
05:05Where does he get that stuff?
05:08How do you ever expect to be a real boy?
05:10What's he think I look like?
05:13A jackass?
05:14The Pleasure Island scene is burned into our memories, so naturally, Disney thought,
05:19why not pass the nightmare fuel to a new generation?
05:22Lampwick's transformation is eerily spot-on, from the slow, creeping changes,
05:26to his sheer panic when he sees his reflection.
05:29If you thought the animated version would haunt you forever,
05:31just wait until you see its live-action update.
05:34Help me, please!
05:35Anybody!
05:36Anybody, please!
05:37Just toll anybody!
05:38Help me!
05:39Please!
05:42Mama!
05:44Mama!
05:45They even nailed the terrifying shadow moment.
05:47Well, looks like another generation just learned that you really can't have too much
05:51of a good thing the hard way.
05:52It's fine, we didn't need to sleep tonight anyway.
06:00Number 5.
06:02Maleficent's Curse.
06:03Maleficent.
06:03Since this film flips Sleeping Beauty on its head,
06:06you wouldn't expect it to borrow too much from the original animation.
06:09Let us tell an old story anew, and we will see how well you know it.
06:15But hey, if you're called the Mistress of Evil, you better live up to it.
06:19I must say, I really felt quite distressed at not receiving an invitation.
06:27You're not welcome here.
06:28When it comes to Maleficent's big moment,
06:30her dialogue is practically in sync with the 1959 version, aside from a few tweaks in timing
06:36and Angelina Jolie's delivery.
06:38Listen well, all of you.
06:43The princess shall indeed grow in grace and beauty.
06:50Beloved by all who meet her.
06:53Of course, since this is her story, the scene is extended.
06:56And the fairies aren't the ones who offer a solution this time.
07:00Still, one thing remains the same.
07:02A true villain knows how to make an entrance and an exit.
07:05And Maleficent delivers in both, leaving in a green blaze of glory.
07:09Before the sun sets on her 16th birthday, she shall prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die.
07:20Number 4.
07:21The Ballroom.
07:22Beauty and the Beast.
07:23Is there a more magical moment than this ballroom scene?
07:26Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme.
07:31Beauty and the Beast.
07:34Belle and the Beast lock eyes across the stairway and make their graceful descent while the first notes of Beauty and the Beast play.
07:40So, of course, the 2017 live-action remake had to honor it.
07:53This ballroom boasts far more chandeliers than its animated counterpart.
07:57Yet one of the best tributes comes in that iconic shot where the camera pans away from the dancing duo, up to the chandelier.
08:04Offering a closer look at the room's grandeur before returning to their intimate waltz.
08:08Tale as old as time.
08:15Tune as old as song.
08:19It's a tale as old as time, and they clearly wanted to keep it that way.
08:23Number 3.
08:24Glass Slipper Close-Up.
08:26Cinderella.
08:27The glass slipper represents the transformative power of magic, a core theme in Disney films.
08:32It's a moment of pure emotional payoff, a signature in their storytelling.
08:36Madame Marcel.
08:39Signorita.
08:42Just a moment.
08:43We get a similar feeling during Cinderella's dress transformation, though the 2015 remake goes all out with it.
08:49But she wouldn't mind if I cheered off of it?
08:52Wouldn't mind an ice blue?
08:54No.
08:54With modern effects at their disposal, why wouldn't they make a spectacle of such an iconic moment?
09:00But in a quieter scene, we see the prince himself slip the glass slipper onto Cinderella's foot.
09:05I do not even know if that beautiful slipper will fit.
09:08But...
09:08If it does, will you take me as I am?
09:16In the animated version, he doesn't even show up.
09:19Why bother when you have staff for that?
09:21But here, the moment feels more romantic while still keeping that close-up of the life-changing fit.
09:26Number 2.
09:28Spaghetti Scene.
09:29Lady and the Tramp.
09:30Some moments are so perfect that changing them would be downright barking mad.
09:34Maybe that's why the remake's creators took the original's lead here.
09:37Butch, he says he wants two spaghetti speciales, heavy on a meatball.
09:45One of the film's sweetest, most iconic moments is this doggy date at Tony's,
09:49where the special of the day is, of course, spaghetti and meatballs.
09:53Oh, this is the night.
09:57It's a beautiful night.
10:00And we call it Bella Norte.
10:05Really, the only noticeable difference is that these pups got a CGI makeover.
10:11Everything else is practically identical.
10:13We still get the soul-stirring serenade of Bella Norte.
10:16And yes, they still share that strand of spaghetti.
10:19Honestly, making any big changes would have been a rough call and perhaps unforgivable to the fans.
10:24This scene was just too paw-fect to mess with.

10:53Number 1, Circle of Life, The Lion King.
10:57There's paying homage, and then there's almost copying a film frame for frame.
11:01And The Lion King definitely leans into the latter.
11:03From the everything-the-light-touches scene to Simba's triumphant roar, we get some serious deja vu.
11:19Director Jon Favreau even admitted that some moments from the 1994 classic were just too iconic to touch.
11:24And honestly, we're with him on that.
11:26Especially the opening.
11:28It's one of the most stunning scenes in animation.
11:31How do you improve on perfection?
11:32The rising sun to the animals slowly gathering.
11:35It's breathtaking.
11:36And it moves us all to display and hold.
11:47And the presentation of Simba still gives chills.
11:50It's a classic, proving the 1994 animation's blueprint lives in its live-action descendant in a cinematic circle of life.
11:57Circle.
11:59Where do you think the shot-for-shot remakes worked, and where did they fall flat compared to the original?
12:13Let us know in the comments.
12:15Do you agree with our picks?

12:48Bye.
