00:00Debunking false claims that Olena Selenska tried to flee Ukraine.

00:09A known Russian disinformation operation has once again targeted Ukraine's First Lady Olena Selenska,

00:17this time falsely claiming she tried to flee the country.

00:20The story is purely fictional and part of a coordinated effort to discredit the Ukrainian president and his family.

00:28This doctored video bearing the logo of the BBC surfaced on X, Facebook, TikTok and Telegram this week.

00:35It claims Selenska tried to escape Ukraine due to a strained relationship with her husband,

00:41but that her plans were filed by the Ukrainian security services.

00:45The Ukrainian president's wife has been planning her escape for the past six months

00:48and has already had arrangements with a European country to grant her political asylum.

00:52However, the plan was uncovered by a personal group of SBU handlers.

00:59A BBC journalist and fact checker has said the video is part of a campaign

01:03that mimics established media sites to disparate Ukraine

01:07and confirm the BBC never produced such a report.

01:12The fake BBC video was first posted on X by an account called Peacemaker,

01:16which is known to us as fact checkers.

01:19Last year, we debunked false claims made by the same account

01:23that Selenska had spent 4 million euros in aid money on a Bugatti.

01:28The same story has been splashed across doctored covers of British newspapers circulating on Telegram,

01:34according to Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation, a government agency.

01:39Despite fact checkers' work, the accounts behind these campaigns continue to operate without restrictions on X.

01:46We reached out to X to ask what measures it was taking against the accounts in question

01:52but have yet to receive a response.
