00:00First of all, we want to know that you have always been someone who has redefined glamour
00:04in the industry. Have I? What? Lovely, thank you for saying that.
00:08And with your podcast, you continue to do that. But let's be real,
00:13how hard it to stay unseen when everyone expects you to be constantly visible.
00:18Do you take this option with visibility or it has taken away from real artistry?
00:23I think it is the way of the world now, so one cannot deny it. So yeah, there is an obsession with
00:32visibility and it's not just an obsession, it's a pressure because it is such a, it is, consumption
00:39is so immediate and so short lived that it's literally out of sight, out of mind. So I can
00:45understand that youngsters who come in pressure that I have to put up a reel, I have to do this,
00:50I have to say something, I have to do it. The pressure is real and it's understandable.
00:55I have worked with Shah Rukh Khan, one of the biggest Bollywood stars. Is he as charming on set
01:05as he's on screen or there is a side of him that the world doesn't tend to see?
01:09Spill the beach and he's juicy behind the scenes stories during this Kabiha Kabiha.
01:14I have talked about him so many times and now I am embarrassed to talk about him because
01:22the film was so long ago and frankly I am not in touch with him these days. So it seems a bit odd. But
01:29yeah, I think he's a man of supreme intelligence and what he has achieved is not a small thing. So one can
01:38understand that there is a lot of courage and strength in that individual. So I really admire that.
01:47Ma'am, talking about your podcast, what will you start the podcast?
01:50Mujhe podcast kuch time se karna tha and mein subject choose nahin kar pa rahi thi. So I was like,
01:57mein ye kar hoon ya nahin kar hoon. And you know, mudse yeh trending reels nahin hoti hain.
02:03And mudse yeh gas or peet ke jokes nahin hoti hain, you know. So I thought,
02:08mein us cheez ke baare mein baat karna chaahongi, jis ke baare mein mujhe kuch knowledge ho,
02:13kuch authority ho, aur kuch interest ho more than anything else. And though I knew ki mein both niche
02:18subject choose kar rahi hun. Mujhe karna tha because I wanted to create what I think in my own eyes is
02:25of value. You know, so it's a style between a documentary and a talk show. Toh it's not ki
02:33just mein artist ko interview kar rahi hun. Because music is not just about the voice behind the song
02:40or the music director behind the song. Music is about so many more things. Music is about something
02:47very infinite. You know, music is infinite. Toh the varieties of topics I am covering are also
02:54vast and varied. And I know ki slow burn hai, niche hai. And but I'm hoping that jin logon ko
03:02infotainment kind of shows. Information, facts, knowledge ki interest hai. They will tune in to my
03:12show. It's called the music stories. And my channel is called the Suchitra Krishnamurti show. So
03:16actually kya ho raha ki bhout loog youtube pe ja ke type kar hain Suchitra Krishnamurti.
03:21And bhout se channels hai waha pe. Nothing to do with me. Woh pata ne kis ne bana hai. Fan channels,
03:26whatever. Toh my channel is called the Suchitra Krishnamurti show. Waha pe is my show the music
03:32stories. And toh meinne mei research khud kar rahi hun, likh rahi hun. For me it's been a
03:39very fantastic experience. Also because I've realized ki yeh podcast ki duniya,
03:44yeh content creator ki duniya kitni challenging hai, kitni difficult hai. You have to be really
03:50intelligent and really hardworking to you know, get anything out. You have chosen a slower but
03:57more meaningful rhythm with the music stories. But let me be honest, do you ever feel the pressure to
04:02keep up with the viral trends and instant content that everyone else is chasing? Do you think this
04:08slower rhythm makes you rebel in today's digital age? Ek toh, I have no pressure of being slower than
04:16anybody else. The fact that you're talking to me after so many years of something that you admire
04:22that I did, is I'm very grateful for. Toh mujhe woh pressure kabhi nahi lagta hai. I can,
04:29I cannot, I am too old to conform to viral trends. You know, I'm past that stage. Mujhe zarurat nahi
04:35woh chize karne ki. And like I said, my show, the music stories is a slow burn. Niche hai,
04:43and music lovers will find my show, I hope, you know, and people who are interested in knowledge
04:52about music and facts and trivia will find my show. So, when I started, I knew that it's going to be
05:00very challenging. And, but I want to do it in a way that I consider correct at the same time that,
05:09that I can add value to audiences when they are watching it. They come away with
05:14some kind of knowledge, some kind of insight, some kind of information, you know.
05:18Ma'am, you are dabbled in acting, singing and now podcasting. So, but here's the big question
05:26in the world that is obsessed with quick film. Do you ever feel like reinvention fatigue like
05:31you are constantly trying to keep up with a younger, faster crowd? How do you say it due to your
05:36artistic, but with the noise?
05:37Ma'am, ek baat meri samaj me nahi aati hai ki, why would I want to keep up with a faster,
05:44younger crowd? Because I am, I am of a certain age, I am of a certain maturity, I am of a certain
05:51experience. And that is my strength. Toh, why would mein apni strength chhod kar kamzor kyu banjaon
05:59by trying to be like anybody else? Toh, jo, the experience I have gained, the knowledge I have
06:05gained is what I bring into whatever I do. And hopefully that is of, you know, interest and value.
06:13Ma'am, it is now your daughter is also debuting. So, tell us something about that,
06:16uh, do you feel more pressure when you have debuted or now your daughter is debuting?
06:21So, uh, you are feeling a pressure. When I, when I debuted and jab, uh,
06:25meri karir chal rahi thi, I felt no pressure. Meri, meri saath toh ek ke baad ek hota gaya.
06:32And mein karti rahi. And, uh, I'm always surprised ki, uh, not surprised, uh, I'm always, uh, uh, grateful.
06:39And, uh, yeah, maybe even a bit surprised ki, itni hit ho gai, itna hoa,
06:45log mujhe, even after sometimes I feel, mein almost bhees saal rahi out of the limelight.
06:50Aar abhi bhi log yaad karte hai, jo mein ne kiya and, uh, poochte rahte hai ki, you know,
06:57when do we see you when? So, I'm very grateful for all that. So, I never felt any pressure,
07:02but yes, I feel pressure for Kaveri because, uh, I want her to be happy. You know, I want her to be
07:09happy. I want her to give it her best shot. And, uh, I want to give her the best that I can give
07:16her. You know, jab mein hai, meri parents ke saath jhagarte hai, I had no support. Meri koi, uh,
07:23mentors ya, you know, godfather ya, godmother. Mein kisi ko nahi janti thi industry mein.
07:28Mein auditions karke, you know, uh, test tapes karke, uh, apne khud, uh, you know, I made it entirely
07:37by my own route. And, uh, uh, hers is of course going to be a completely different journey,
07:44but it's still going to be a difficult journey. And I think as much as I can support her,
07:49mein wohi chahongi ki, I give her all the support that she requires and, uh, she just what, she does
07:56what makes her happy. Mujhe, frankly, I feel this, all this career and success and all that,
08:03agar koi individual chahe ki unko ekdam successful on a career chahiyeh chahiyeh toh phir they must
08:10definitely chase it. But it is not so important. It's okay to not even want it. You know,
08:15so it's entirely what she wants.
08:16It's so unfair, kyunki jab, uh, newcomers ko apne parents ke saath compare kertae hain,
08:29toh, uh, unke parents ke first film ke saath nahi compare kertae hain. Unke parents ke probably
08:49thirtieth or fiftieth film ke saath compare kertae hain. Toh, it's too much pressure, you know,
08:53and, uh, but if you're in the business, you have to be tough, you have to handle the pressure
09:00and you have to, uh, you know, uh, being an artist, koi, uh, hundred meters ki sprint nahi hain.
09:08Woh, so kilometer ki marathon hai, you know, or maybe even thousand kilometer ki marathon hai. So,
09:14uh, uh, uh, uh, my Kaveri ko yehi bolti hun ki tum koi sprint race nahi run, uh, dood rahe ho.
09:20Koi race hi nahi hai. You know, walk and, uh, crawl and, uh, stroll, you know, swim, do whatever it is,
09:28but enjoy the journey, enjoy the journey. That is the most important. When you look back,
09:33you should say, I enjoyed this. Ma'am, uh, talking about your personal life, uh, there is no such a,
09:41how, how difficult it was to be a single mother and, uh, take care of the daughter as well as work
09:46man. How difficult and what's the pressure that you are going through? See, loog mujhe constantly
09:50poochta hai ki, why, why don't you do more work? Now I can, of course, my daughter's grown up,
09:55but it was primarily because I was, you know, I was a single mother and, uh, bahar se bot glamorous lagta hai,
10:01but being a single mother is very tough. It is emotionally tough. It's financially tough.
10:07It's socially tough. It is very tough. So, uh, uh, koi se glamor ki nazar se mat dekha hai,
10:13and, uh, uh, child ultimately needs a loving environment and needs both parents. And I'll
10:20always say that if you can make things work, try to make it work. Of course, if it's not working,
10:24then respect yourself, but don't think it's easy. Aisa kisi ko lagna nahi chahiye,
10:29may karungi, is nahi kya dekho, may kyun nahi kar paungi, nahi nahi, it's very tough.
10:33Yeah, I've always spoken of music with deep, uh, reverence in the music story,
10:39but what's your take on today's popular music? Do you think that it's, uh, still as
10:44a soulful as it is used to be or have, uh, algorithms and commercial demand taken away from the art?
10:49I think there's some fantastic music happening in the world. There is some really good artistry
10:58happening, but the problem ye hai ki koi, uh, uh, kisi ke zahen mein nahi aata hai because,
11:04because of the whole algorithm fixtures, right? So, uh, koi koi gaane vahir hoote hai jo,
11:12do they deserve it? But then do you call it a fluke or a hit? You know, so it's very difficult to say,
11:18but I think in terms of caliber of, uh, music, it's becoming better and better. I mean,
11:24ap shows dekho, like Indian Idol and all, kya gaate hai log, you know, and even compositions,
11:30ap, uh, young composers ko dekho, Amal Malik ko dekho, uh, you know, ar regional music mein kitne
11:38log forward aare hai, toh, there is something very exciting happening in music, but, uh, ye jo, uh,
11:44aam, uh, uh, uh, platforms, uh, uh, jo, uh, uh, shook weil struggle kar rahe hai ki,
11:50how to break out of this algorithm chain and, you know, support
11:55music that they believ in, koin ki abh hi sirf, it is not about the music, it's about the numbers,
12:01or art and, uh, mathematics jata nahin ya sath mein.
12:03Mathematics doesn't come along with it.
12:07In terms of AI, AI is also a trend for a lot of music.
12:14You can do a lot of AI, so you can do it.
12:18How much AI needs to be used in it?
12:23It's not necessary, but why not?
12:25If we can enhance something, then why not?
12:30As people complain about auto-tune, he has auto-tuned.
12:35You say to some actor, why have you used your makeup?
12:39Or why have you used your braces?
12:47So as science advances, people are bound to use it.
12:51And AI is the future.
12:53In fact, it's not even the future, it's here.
12:56So one has to just accept it and see,
12:59It's not true, it's not true.
13:05You can't become AI by a singer.
13:09So these misconceptions should go out.
13:12But AI is a tool and why not use a tool?
13:15I mean, before the technology,
13:18there was a telegram before the computer.
13:20Should we go back to telegram?
13:21No, no, no, we can send emails or WhatsApp.
13:25It's like saying, no, no, no, telegram was pure, you use that.
13:29You know, it's unnecessary.
13:32It's silly.
13:33I mean, I believe, I believe.
13:35We are talking about the other generations.
13:37The other generations have one more pressure.
13:39On the other hand, the family's pressure as well.
13:43The ones will compare it to their parents.
13:45However, they have one more pressure.
13:49The others will also have to take a step to stay visible.
13:55How much pressure on that? How much pressure do you think you need to be in that situation?
14:02See, pressure is a lot of pressure.
14:05And literally, it's an out of sight, out of mind business.
14:11But I think even in that pressure, ultimately, your choice is.
14:16If you have a film tomorrow or a song that is a super hit, whether or not you are active on social media, your followers will go up by 1 million or 10 million.
14:29So ultimately, it is about your work.
14:32But in the meantime, between the actual work you're creating, I think the culture is that the fans want to know what you're up to,
14:41this is a relatability issue, they want to feel like you're one of them.
14:45So you don't have to succumb to the pressure.
14:47I tell you, if you want to do it, then do it.
14:49If you want to do it, then don't stress. It's no big deal.
14:52If you want to do it, then do it.
14:55And look, today, this culture has come in the industry.
15:03There are all media agencies, social media managers.
15:07People need to do it.
15:09You know, so people put a lot of pressure on them, I feel.
15:13They have to justify their big fat salaries also.
15:18What are your worries about them?
15:20I have done a very interesting project that should be out on OTT soon.
15:27I am writing today, so I am very excited.
15:32Hopefully, I will write a project very quickly and direct it.
15:39What would you like to send your message to my friends?
15:42Look, I don't give this message, advice now, because I am a fan of knowledge.
15:52Social media is still all okay, as long as all these quacks don't come and give knowledge.
15:57So, I never give knowledge.
16:00So, no knowledge please, no message.
16:02Just enjoy your life and do what your heart says and respect your elders.
