Scott Parker looks to positives in draw with Derby County

Clarets head coach Scott Parker felt his side controlled the first period of the game but couldn't quite find that final ball in the 0-0 draw with Derby County.

00:00I thought we started the game really, really well, to be fair, for 30-35 minutes.

00:04We were every bit of the team we wanted to be and didn't manage to get a goal in front,

00:11really took the game away from Derby, quite in a crowd down, limited them to not a lot really.

00:18But I think it's fair to say we knew what we were going to come and face here really.

00:21They're a side that put you under pressure in terms of the areas they play the game in

00:26and they go from back to front pretty early and direct and they've got a way which obviously causes you problems.

00:33We needed to be defensively very solid, we needed to be diligent in everything we did in our basics really

00:39and I thought we did that very well, hence why we come out of here with a draw,

00:44a team that are top of the league for set plays, look for throw-ins and obviously it can cause you problems.

00:51The game becomes a 50-50 game at that moment with a set play, it can be in your box

00:54and we defended that very, very well.

00:59But yeah, overall it's a point game for us, we came here with full intention to try to win the game,

01:05we've not managed to do that tonight but a lot of positives.

01:08Yeah, we did, yeah, we needed to try and, you know, during that half-hour spell,

01:14we needed to obviously try and get our noses in front really

01:17and maybe the game becomes a little bit different for us.

01:20Back end of the first half, they gain a bit of pressure by camping in that final third against us

01:26and like I said, we defended it well.

01:28Second half, a couple of little bits but there was nothing really to shout about

01:32and the game ends in a 0-0 draw really.

01:35Well, I just think it's part of the game really, we always speak to the team about momentum

01:39and momentum swung a little bit, for sure it swung a little bit.

01:43Could we control that a little bit better?

01:44I'm not sure because like I said, if the ball's going in certain areas, you have to defend that,

01:49you're now near your goal, you want to try and not concede corners and not concede throw-ins

01:54because that pressure comes a little bit more.

01:57I think at that point, if you can't gain momentum, certainly you need to defend it and stand up to it

02:02and we did that very well.
