00:00In Ghana, sadly, countless children are abandoned and fall victim to being captured as slaves to
00:05the fishing industry. And after speaking with countless locals, I came to the heartbreaking
00:09realization that being rescued is only the beginning of their struggle.
00:14Even for those fortunate enough to escape, years of relentless abuse and exploitation have left
00:20them in desperate need of medical care, yet there are no adequate facilities to provide the treatment
00:24they so urgently require. So we made it our mission to build a brand new surgical center
00:29in the heart of Ghana to combat the lack of medical care, to help survivors like these
00:33two brothers, Ernest and Richman, who were sold as slaves after being abandoned by their parents
00:38and only rescued at the age of 16.
00:46As slaves of the fishing industry, the two were separated and had to survive on their own,
00:51not knowing if they will ever see each other again.
00:59But luckily, the two brothers were rescued by the Ghana Make a Difference Foundation,
01:08also known as GMAT, an organization that combats child slavery here in Ghana.
01:19As it stands, GMAT serves as a shelter for these abused and orphaned children by breaking
01:24the chains of their past and providing them a life of love and care. The goal is to rehabilitate
01:29and educate them so that when they grow out of adolescence, they are capable of making a new
01:34life for themselves. When the brothers were saved, they luckily did not need any medical attention,
01:39but this was not the case for many of their peers. So to find out more, I met up with Austin,
01:44the executive director of GMAT, who explained the issue with medical care for the survivors that need it.
01:48They have to travel to an overcrowded hospital 30 minutes away from the GMAT compound and wait in
01:54long lines of over 600 people. The bottleneck's always been OR space. We've never had enough
02:00OR space. You know, the volunteer surgeons here will perform over 200 major medical operations
02:07in four and a half days. After seeing so many people wait in line the whole day only to be denied
02:13treatment, we immediately began the construction of a new surgical center in the GMAT compound.
02:18While the project was underway, I spent more time with the kids and got to see the abundance
02:28of life here at the compound.
02:36I'm so happy I met Mr. Beast. I was just in shock, but luckily I met a celebrity.
02:42The kids that come here to Ghana make a difference, they own their
02:48stories. And it's really powerful because of what they went through and what they've overcome.
02:53Seeing all the warm smiles on each of these children's faces, one could never have guessed
02:58that they come from such devastating backgrounds. If it wasn't for Corey and Stacy Hoffman, who
03:02founded GMAT 12 years ago, none of this would have been possible.
03:06When we first came to Ghana, we realized that there were so many children that had no one to
03:12advocate for them. Children need families to thrive.
03:17As the construction of the surgical center was nearly complete,
03:20we sat down with some of the volunteer surgeons to hear more about their experiences.
03:24I think yesterday when we showed up, we had probably around 600 people here begging to be seen.
03:29And so it only takes one time to see that and to not come back.
03:34The doctors and surgeons that volunteer to help here often see cases that are so severe,
03:39they've literally never seen it before in their entire career.
03:42You see, you know, we have 60 individuals here that are volunteering their time.
03:46They pay their own way. They come back and they want to come back because they feed off the energy
03:50of the people and the manner in which they are so resilient and they overcome.
03:54That's what's infectious is watching the people just deal with the hand they've been dealt and
03:59and make the best of it.
04:00So after months of construction, we had finally finished building GMAT's new surgical center
04:05and it was now time for the big reveal.
04:08In the name of almighty God, the Son, the Holy Spirit. Amen.
04:18With this new surgical center, GMAT will now be able to provide treatment to more
04:21children and families of the surrounding community.
04:24Now we have the ability to perform surgeries to folks that need it.
04:31After the grand opening, the folks at GMAT held a celebration outside their newly built surgical
04:36center. And the very next night, they were able to save one of the very first patients to be treated
04:41in this facility. A young girl named Mary, whose legs were so deformed that she could barely walk.
04:46But luckily for her, the new Peace Philanthropy Surgical Center provided the surgeons an adequate
04:51facility where they could fix her legs. Mary will be one of many whose lives will change for the
04:56better now that the surgeons at GMAT have more capacity to help others.
05:00If you'd like to be a part of the incredible work that GMAT is doing,
05:04I need you to click the link in the description and donate right now.
05:07Seriously, with your support, GMAT will be able to get more kids out of slavery
05:11and provide them with the love and care they deserve. Go away Wasp, I'm trying to help people.
05:14You should consider it. It would mean a lot to them and it would honestly mean a lot to me.
05:18I also want to say a special thanks to AuxBlue for donating the time-lapse cameras we used in this
05:22video. You guys are awesome!
05:24All right.
05:35Look at that.
05:36All right.
05:45What擊 you.
05:46When you came here and released all these years,
05:50how important would you get,
05:52how important would you act as opposed to your condol cot?
