00:00Humber J. Phillips Hospital, built in 1937, has been a major flashpoint in the

00:08struggles of African Americans in this community. It was a public hospital that

00:14provided incredible services to a community that was really in need. But in

00:19spite of that, because of racism, the closing of this hospital was a military

00:25operation. People in this community, they were literally under siege, but they

00:32surrounded this hospital for almost 20 days. It is important for the record to

00:38show, this community did not give up this hospital. It was stolen.
