00:00If you speak or sit next to a Nobel laureate,
00:04he never tells you that he won a Nobel Prize.
00:08Other people tell you.
00:10Where did Microsoft, where did Apple, where did Amazon,
00:15where did Google, where did Facebook come from?
00:20They came from ideas that people felt
00:23something could be done,
00:26and that they could make a difference.
00:28If you think you cannot make a difference,
00:31I'd say you very well can make a difference
00:34if you so desire.
00:40As you move away, don't consider that
00:44you are coming out with a degree which is a privilege.
00:52View this moment as moving from a protected environment
00:59to an environment where you have to learn and listen,
01:03because your whole world is going to be
01:05learning and listening.
01:08Your success is going to be your humility.
01:11How many times have you heard people say,
01:15this can't be done?
01:18It's your job to remove those myths
01:23and to get things done.
01:25In many ways, we have been critical of
01:31and saddened by what has or has not happened in our country.
01:37To a great extent, this has been a function of,
01:42we can't do this, or it can't be done.
01:46Or vested interest saying it shouldn't be done.
01:51Ethical practices being thrown to the wind
01:54and subjective issues being brought to the table.
02:00You, in the years ahead, are going to be leaders
02:04of this country and shaping the destiny of this country.
02:10Do not let, do not grow with a view
02:15that something can't be done and so should not be done.
02:19Let me just take a minute and you look
02:25at the world around you.
02:29Are the great successes the large companies of this world,
02:33and there are many, and many successful companies?
02:38Or are they the companies that took chances,
02:43where individuals started in garages,
02:46where ideas were born?
02:51Where did Microsoft, where did Apple, where did Amazon,
02:55where did Google, where did Facebook come from?
03:01They came from ideas that people felt
03:04something could be done,
03:07and that they could make a difference.
03:09So as you go out into this world,
03:13I would hope that you, A, would look at being ethical
03:20and holding the value systems
03:22which you want this country to have.
03:26If you think you cannot make a difference,
03:29I'd say you very well can make a difference
03:32if you so desire.
03:35That you are humble as you look forward.
03:39If you speak or sit next to a Nobel laureate,
03:44he never tells you that he won a Nobel Prize.
03:48Other people tell you.
03:49So let humility be your best defense.
03:59And I would say that you always need to take a view
04:03that you have had the privilege of a good education,
04:08you need to give back to society
04:11some of the learning you have done
04:13to do something for your country and for society.
04:19And you shouldn't merely consider yourself successful
04:23based on the prosperity you gain for yourself,
04:28but you should go home at night feeling satisfied
04:32if you have made a difference.
04:34That difference is something each one of us can make,
04:39and we'll have failures and we've had frustrations,
04:44but it's a continued commitment that we have
04:48to the world around us, to ourselves,
04:50and to the people of India.
