00:00Since you were a teenager, attitudes in India must have changed. Is this a more liberal
00:20country now?
00:21Definitely. Definitely. I think the perception that people have of us in the West is of a
00:28very different India.
00:29But you say it's more liberal, and then people see all the fuss that goes on when you get
00:34kissed on the cheek by Richard Gere. That doesn't sound like a liberal country.
00:39I don't want to believe that the sentiments of, you know, a lunatic fringe is the sentiment
00:44of my entire country. We're all in shock, and I actually think it's ridiculous, but
00:50with due respect to the judiciary, I'm sure something great is going to even come out
00:54of this.
00:55Can you explain how it happens? You get kissed on a stage in one part of the country, and
01:01a judge somewhere at the other end of the country tells you to go to court.
01:04Well, I guess some people... You know, more than anything else, I think it's just someone
01:10trying to seek some media mileage at my cost. That's the way I'd like to put it.
01:15But basically anybody can go to court anywhere.
01:17Yes. We're living in a different democracy.
01:19And say, I think Shilpa's broken the law.
01:22That's often misused. I think it's been misused at this point of time.
01:24But you will go to court and defend yourself, will you?
01:26If they tell me to appear, I will do it. As the lawyer tells me to react, I will.
01:31But you'd stand up for your rights?
01:33I believed... I still believe that I haven't done anything wrong. How can I be blamed for
01:38something like that? So if people, you know, people felt that I should apologise, why would
01:45I? What have I done? If I didn't hold Richard while he bent me over, I would have fallen.
01:53And I didn't kiss him. He kissed me on my cheek for crying out loud.
01:58Do you think India's morality will ever be the same as the West's?
02:02People want to ape India now. You know, the whole yoga thing and, you know, the whole
02:07ethnic culture. It's something that we need to be proud of. So why would we want to ape
02:13the West? Yeah.
