Meet The Young Chinese Woman Teaching Her Country Tamil

This Chinese woman loves Tamil culture. She's now determined to teach the language to her country's citizens.

00:07Through language I think we can get to know deeper about a culture. That's why I hope

00:32a lot of Chinese can get to know more about India through maybe Tamil, Hindi, whatever

00:37the language is and we can get to know more about India.

00:49My class, now we have ten students from all over China, different parts of China. They

00:53are very interested in Tamil culture.

00:58I read a book, it's about, it's a travelogue of travelling across India and I found all

01:05that's a very amazing, fascinating country. So when I choose my major in university, I

01:11think I should learn something relating to maybe Indian language or culture.

01:24It's a Tamil language channel, but it's basically introducing China to the Tamil listeners.

01:31We have programmes like Travelling in China, Learning Chinese Language and Chinese Folk

01:36Stories.

01:37You know the first time I take a bus in Bombay Cherry, I don't have five rupee change, but

01:47there's some auntie, I don't know, she bought a ticket for me.

02:06The thing is, because I like Tamil language and culture very much, I think there should

02:12be more Chinese to know this language, but what I was doing in the radio station, I think

02:17it's reversed, it's like introducing China to the Tamils, but not introducing Tamil to

02:23the Chinese. So that is why I want to teach now. I hope more young guys in China can get

02:30to know about this language.

02:36We are now starting from the alphabets. So you know Tamil has 247 alphabets and the writing

02:44system is so different from Chinese. The pronunciation is one of the most difficult

02:49part. You know in Tamil we have a saying, it's called... It's like painting is a practice

02:57of a hand and Tamil is a practice of tongue, because it's very different from Chinese pronunciation.

03:14China and India, we are two giant neighbors, but people know so little about each other.

03:21It's such a great country, just like China. So I hope, through my very limited efforts,

03:30more Chinese young guys can get to know more about India.
