00:30People couldn't believe that a grandfather and a granddaughter were traveling together.
00:34They thought I was his girlfriend traveling with him.
00:40They couldn't believe it because it's such a rare combination.
00:50It was my first trip abroad and during the Christmas break of that year, we, some of us friends,
00:58we went to Europe for the first time and my vision changed.
01:03The vision of the world changed during my Europe trip.
01:07I mean that was the first cultural kind of a shock I got of the new world as it were.
01:20So it was for me, I made myself a promise that I will complete his dream one day
01:36and I will go to all the places he wanted to go and let him see through my eyes.
01:51I had some finances enough for my domestic touring and I did it in a very systematic manner.
02:01I used to find out the short breaks and the long breaks from the calendar which I used to buy
02:08at the beginning of the year and plan which places I can cover during each of the breaks
02:15and then plan accordingly and go and see the worth seeing things there and write about them in my diary.
02:24So this systematically I completed till about 99.
02:37Your grandfather very well to do. Has he always had the money? Is that how he's able to do it?
02:43And something that I'd like to mention here is that he has worked his way up.
02:49He was somebody who came from a very humble family.
02:53But like he said, he's been a planner at heart, he's been a visionary
02:57and because he knew he had these dreams which his growing up he couldn't afford it,
03:02his family couldn't afford it.
03:03But once he started working, he was able to understand how to manage his finances
03:08and really work towards it.
03:10And he didn't start off with a goal saying, I have to complete 100 countries.
03:15It was like, okay, let me see one, let me see one more and then let me see one more.
03:19After the 50th anniversary of my wedding, I took her to show all the places where I had moved during my stay 50 years ago.
03:39He's such a good storyteller that he brings his experiences to life and makes you relive them widely.
04:00He is so enthusiastic to try new things that I don't feel like, oh, if my friends were here,
04:06I would have also done this because with him, it's the same thing.
04:10He'll still say yes.
04:12If I want to say, come, let's go have a beer, he'll have that beer with me.
04:15So in fact, I feel like when you're with friends, perhaps because you don't have the context of a life lived as much,
04:25it is a different experience.
04:27So I can't compare, it's fun.
04:29I had plans to go by Trans-Siberian Railway to Mongolia via Lake Baikal.
04:43And then I have plans to go to South Korea.
04:48But I want to come with you to South Korea.
04:51And then some Mediterranean countries and some African countries are on my list like Uganda,
04:59where I want to see the gorillas in their original habitat.
05:04Also some European countries like Ukraine and Belarus and other countries.
05:10Basically, we keep telling him that he's finished 90 countries already.
05:14So now he's literally just looking at the map.
05:17Where haven't I been? Where are those remote countries?
