00:00Today we want to talk about drugs.

00:09Anything that you put in your body that changes your physiological makeup,

00:12that changes your behavioral makeup,

00:14that causes changes in your body, mind and being is a drug.

00:18So practically a doctor is also writing drugs but those are prescription drugs.

00:26Here's a simple checklist that I want you to do.

00:29Think of a certain drug that you've been taking for a while now.

00:32Do you have a craving for this drug? Do you have an urge?

00:35Sometimes when you're at work are you thinking about when do I get my next hit?

00:39When you suddenly stop or reduce the quantity of the drug,

00:43you have certain physiological and psychological changes.

00:46Any drug is an addiction when it starts impacting your work,

00:50social life and your basic fabric of being.

00:59Intoxication comprises of changes in behavioral science and changes in physical science.

01:03The changes in behavioral science could be in the form of impaired judgment,

01:06could be in the form of impaired reaction time.

01:09So you may not react at the right time, react too fast or react too slow

01:12and hence common accidents happen when people are high on drugs.

01:15They could be illusions, they could be hallucinations, imagining things which aren't real.

01:20People can also have interference in their personal functioning

01:23which means they stop taking care of themselves and their basic responsibilities.

01:27Changes in your heart rate. There may be changes in the appetite pattern.

01:31A lot of drugs also cause changes in the vision.

01:33Cases of cardiac arrhythmias have also been reported on certain drugs during the phase of intoxication.

01:44There could be a change in your cardiopulmonary status.

01:46You could age much faster.

01:48Brain size will start to become smaller than compared to others.

01:51You could start losing your memory much faster so dementia can present itself really early.

01:56Your exposure to cancer becomes much higher.

01:59And in general, your vessels of the body can constrict a lot more.

02:03Your liver can get impacted.

02:09There are individuals who crave for a lot more novelty.

02:12We call this novelty seeking.

02:14Who have less harm avoidance.

02:16Who don't really care and wear danger on their sleeve

02:19and are impulsive and reckless in their decision making.

02:23Yes, such personalities may have a higher tendency to fall prey to drugs.

02:27The groups that you hang out with.

02:29That's why they say choose your friends carefully, right?

02:31A stressor. So losing a loved one, losing a job or having a hard time in your life

02:36may make you want to numb out the pain by using the coping strategy of drugs.
