Hindustan Unilever has finally decided to drop the words "fairness", "whitening" and "lightening" from its products. But will this end India's obsession with fairness creams?

01:34Marketing people for cosmetics get more success when they say a product is for fairness rather

01:42than for any other thing.

01:44Fairness is the supermost requirement.

02:13When I saw the commercial, it took me looking at myself and seeing that commercial for

02:38me to understand that I'm standing for exactly what made me insecure as a teenager.

02:44And then I got out of the contract, of course, and never did it again, but it took me actually

02:48seeing myself saying that and remembering what I felt like as a 12-year-old when I used

02:53to watch the commercials and buy those creams and try and change my skin tone because I

02:58would be prettier.

03:00And I don't think that's the standard of beauty I want for my children or for the children

03:04of the world.

03:05I faced a lot of rejection as well.

03:06I would meet people, they would give me excuses how they can't cast me, sometimes because

03:07of my complexion.
