Have you been using the wrong hand sanitiser to protect yourself during the Covid-19 pandemic? Here’s a checklist reminder from Dr.Yuvraj Jadeja.
Transcript
00:00Before we talk about sanitizers, let's get this clear.
00:04Washing your hands with plain soap and water for 30-40 seconds is as good as any sanitizer.
00:13The first important point is, your sanitizer should be alcohol-based. Period.
00:20Sunne mein accha lagta hai. Organic, alcohol-free, great for your hands, but not great for your life.
00:26Always, always buy an alcohol-based sanitizer. Avoid the non-alcoholic ones.
00:33Second, if you're buying that alcohol-based sanitizer, make sure that the alcohol content
00:38percentage is anywhere between 60-90%. That's the optimal one.
00:43Third, if the bottle writes behind anti-bacterial and anti-viral, that's the best.
00:50But if nothing like that is mentioned, it's alright.
00:52What you need to take care is the first two points, the content and its ingredients.
00:57Fourth, like with any other medical product,
01:00make sure that the product or the sanitizer has not crossed its expiration date.
01:06Especially sanitizers, they have alcohol. Alcohol evaporates, meaning uski bhav ban jati hai.
01:13So after a certain time, those alcohol-based sanitizers are useless.
01:17Fifth, there is also a list of FDA-approved sanitizers not to buy. So in your free time,
01:24you might have a look at it, because you might be using the one that is actually not recommended.
01:29And last, if you're one of those person who enjoys reading every ingredient written behind,
01:35what you need to see in form of alcohol, you might find things such as ethanol,
01:40ethyl alcohol, isopropanolol, propanolol, etc.
01:46It will also have ingredients such as H2O2,
01:48glycerine and some moisturizing substances such as aloe vera, which is alright.
01:53And remember, whether you're buying a gel-based sanitizer, a liquid sanitizer or sprays,
01:58the rules of the ingredients and all that we discussed remain the same.
