Transcript
00:00I want to do everything that people think I can't do.
00:02It doesn't matter how big the director or the producer is,
00:06I always keep the script as the benchmark.
00:12You know your power as an influencer, right?
00:17So if three things, three good things, three positive changes
00:20that you would like to bring in the country,
00:22what would those three things be?
00:24One is sanitation, second education,
00:27and third would be equality.
00:30You still think we are lagging behind when it comes to education?
00:33Of course we are.
00:35More than education, I think it's the awareness also at the same time.
00:39Our illiteracy rate is still less.
00:42So I think we need to be aware and literate enough
00:45to reach the world's standards.
00:46Do you get film offers nowadays,
00:49you know, based that,
00:50okay, you know, this film is, like, tailor-made,
00:53you know, it's there for Ayushman Khan,
00:55are you still in the phase where people would consider you for that?
00:59You know, I would.
01:00More than anything else, it's challenging to do films
01:01which are not tailor-made for me.
01:03That's why I wanted to do this film.
01:05Anubhav Sinha sir, he offered me a rom-com,
01:08and I was like, no, I want to do something hard-hitting.
01:10And he was like, I can't see you as a cop.
01:13So that's where the challenge lies.
01:15I want to do everything which people think I can't do.
01:18So what's next?
01:18I have no idea. It depends on the script I get.
01:22I really don't know.
01:23Because I think I always give priority to the script.
01:26As I said, I always wanted to play a cop,
01:28but I waited for seven years to play a cop,
01:30because I always wanted that script
01:31which is different and novel and stands out.
01:34What's the secret behind your success so much?
01:37Is it your films, the kind of scripts that you've been choosing?
01:39Always.
01:40It's the script, nothing else.
01:42Yeah, it's the director, the scripts.
01:47That's about it. I go with my gut.
01:48I go with my intuition.
01:49Like, whenever I read a script,
01:51it doesn't matter how big the director or the producer is.
01:55I always keep the script as the benchmark.
01:59Everybody still relates Ayushman Khurrana with a Vicky Donor.
02:03What do you have to say about that?
02:04Is that film one of the most special films that you've done?
02:07Of course it is. That's my first film.
02:09And I arrived because of Vicky Donor.
02:12And I think you always...
02:17People love that character.
02:19And it all started from there.
02:20Like, the taboo subjects.
02:22And I've followed that trajectory over the years with my films.
02:27So that'll always be special.
02:28Right. So, all your films that you've done,
02:32I don't think you've repeated a genre
02:34every time it's a new thing that we get to see from you.
02:37Which one would be your favourite Ayushman Khurrana?
02:43Mine is Andha Doon, I'm just telling it to you.
02:45You're actually right.
02:46I think I'll choose Vicky Donor and Andha Doon.
02:50Yeah, and also Dhamm Laga Kesh.
02:52I just want to create benchmarks every single time.
02:55But the onus lies on the scriptwriters and the directors
02:57who back me up with great lines and great arcs in the characters.
03:02So it can't be just me alone.
03:04Right. So, apart from this, you've tried your hand in singing.
03:08Obviously you've excelled in it.
03:09You've got your own band.
03:12You're an actor par excellence.
03:13What next? I mean, what are the other shades of Ayushman Khurrana?
03:16I would love to direct and produce one day or write a script.
03:19But I have a long way to go.
03:20I think I'm enjoying my journey as an actor and a musician right now.
03:24So acting will always come first.
03:26How inspired is Apar Shakti by Ayushman?
03:28Because it's kind of the same track that we see he's also following.
03:31He's just launched his new single.
03:34Yeah.
03:34That's also like a smashing hit.
03:36I'm sure he's inspired because we've shared the room for like 20 years of our lives.
03:42And he has his own journey, though, because he wanted to be a cricketer to begin with.
03:47He's captained Haryana national team.
03:50Then he studied law after that.
03:53Then he did theatre and radio.
03:55So he's, in fact, he's seen more life than me because I always wanted to be an actor.
04:01But he's seen different life, different perspectives.
04:04And he's probably bringing those things to his own craft.
04:08I think as an actor, as an artist, the more you're living and more you're experiencing in life,
04:14it reflects on a performance on screen.
04:17So good for him that he's seen so much of life.
04:20And I think your wife is doing a great job behind the camera.
04:23That was such a...
04:26I'll say quickie because they shot for like eight hours at a friend's farmhouse
04:31with like another friend, Sargun, who stays in the building.
04:35So it was such a family affair.
04:36Kudi Hai Nahi.
04:37Yeah, that song.
