00:00I would say to Prime Minister Modi, thank you for some of the big changes you have brought
00:24about.
00:25I actually think the changes that he has helped to bring about in India are quite dramatic.
00:32They are presently planning to install, and starting to install, 500 gigawatts of solar
00:40and some of it wind.
00:43And they're disinvesting in coal burning plants, they're cancelling some of those that had
00:49been planned.
00:50So that's excellent.
00:54Can they move faster?
00:55I hope so.
00:56Most of the great morally based revolutions in human history have been significantly led
01:03by young people.
01:04The movement to solve the climate crisis, and to solve it in time, must be led by young
01:10people.
01:11The school strike movement, the extinction rebellion, other movements that are springing
01:18up around the world are being led primarily by young people.
01:23I would say that you do have a source of moral authority that older people do not.
01:30You will live with the consequences of the decisions made today for far longer than my
01:36generation will.
01:38That does give you an opportunity to speak up insistently, boldly, loudly, fiercely,
01:46and demand change.
01:53We've got to do more.
01:54We have a global emergency.
01:55It's all hands on deck.
01:58The good news is we have the technologies to solve this crisis.
02:02They create jobs.
02:04They clean up our air and water.
02:06They save our future.
02:09There's nothing bad about this strategy.
02:14The only thing we need to do is to end the resistance to them that comes from the fossil
02:21fuel companies.
02:22They're powerful.
02:23I understand.
02:24They have money and political connections.
02:28They're desperately trying to stop the world from shifting away from the fossil fuels that
02:35are primarily causing this crisis.
02:37Our future is at stake.
02:40Our children and grandchildren and a thousand generations to come, those of us alive right
02:45now and particularly heads of state who have an unparalleled opportunity to effect change
02:53should recognize that this is the time for bold action.
