00:00So Fridays for Future is a global youth movement that was started by Greta Thunberg back in Sweden
00:06So why we picked Friday as an interesting day, so she started skipping school every week to progress for
00:14Climate change because the government and those in power aren't doing anything about it
00:19Okay, what did your parents have to say about skipping school? Not very complimentary, I assume
00:24so when we started Fridays for Future, I was still in college and
00:28It's in college, so they didn't really mind that I was skipping Friday's school
00:32So what we want to do is understand the local issues like you mentioned
00:36So first thing was awareness and then to make ourselves aware about the various issues that we are facing in Bangalore
00:44So what we did was because we are a youth movement that's spread out all around Bangalore
00:49We decentralize the society every Friday
00:52So this way we interact with the public every Friday to understand what the issues they are facing in their local area
00:59And tell them about what we are doing and why we are doing this
01:04And almost every two weeks on a Sunday we meet to discuss what the issues were in different areas
01:10And understand what we can do about it
01:12The events like clean up drives and plantation drives
01:16It's just environmental administration activities which will help us engage with the public
01:22As well as understand the requirements of the public
01:26While we don't have leaders, we do have a working group
01:30These are people who have been actively taking part in Fridays for Future for a while now
01:35One of our main working groups, she's studying climate science
01:39We also interact with climate scientists
01:43For our last protest we had a senior climate researcher from WRC come down and talk about the science aspect of it
01:50So we might be young but we really want to learn more about the topic
01:54So we engage with people who work in similar fields to understand that
01:59So while we are leaderless, we do have a working group that is quite active
02:04So if anyone wants to reach out, they can email us or reach out to us on our social media
02:09So the next step of action is we want to present our demands to the government
02:15And who would be meeting the government?
02:17The Delhi team has already met the Ministry of Environment from their last two previous strikes
02:22They were invited into the ministry
02:24So the national coordinator's meeting is to ensure that we are all on the same page
02:29On the demands that we want to present to them
02:32Because we have quite a few ideas and not all of them might be in the best interest of the movement and what we are demanding
02:38So it centers down in research on what we want together
02:43So that the Delhi team can present it to the government or the Ministry of the Environment about what our demands are
