Kerala Elephant Death Angers Maneka Gandhi

Maneka Gandhi severely criticised the Kerala government over a pregnant elephant’s heinous death. But she got the place wrong.

01:00In Kerala, one elephant is killed every 3rd day and that too in a temple.

01:10They take them on a parade in the sun and if they get scared and roam here and there, they are killed at the same time.

01:21They keep them and take insurance.

01:27And then they put needles on them so that they get gangrene and then they die and take insurance in their name.

01:36They put rods on them and drown them in water.

01:41The elephant is a schedule 1 animal.

01:44The elephant should not be in the hands of people who beat him like this.

01:48Now this elephant will die in the next one week. Every week an elephant dies of beating in Kerala.

01:54They should sack the chief wildlife warden. They should now arrest everybody in Malappuram who they suspect because these are repeat offenders.

02:05Whether it's children being sold in orphanages which we have found, it is Malappuram.

02:10Whether it is people being killed, look at the crime rate in Malappuram.

02:16What is being done in Malappuram? Nothing, nothing. Now the communal conflict there is highest in Malappuram.

02:42The point is that the forest secretary should be removed. The minister, if he had any sense, should give his resignation.

02:49He is from that area. Why has he not? Rahul Gandhi is from that area. Why has he not taken action?

03:12A case has been lying in front of the Supreme Court for 7 years.

03:16All the NGOs of the country have together requested the Supreme Court

03:21that after listening to this case, we want the elephant to be removed from every temple,

03:26the elephant to be removed from every private ownership.

03:29Less than 20,000 elephants are left. Only 800 males are left.

03:35Now 800 males means that after a few days, this population will end like a lion.

03:41So, the Supreme Court should have given a ruling that this is an animal of Schedule 1.

03:50In any country, an animal of Schedule 1 cannot be owned by any individual.
