00:00In the beginning, was the Word.

00:03Christ is a master at using short, mysterious stories.

00:07They change the listener who takes them seriously.

00:11My experience with the biblical text

00:14is that they're inexhaustible sources of wisdom.

00:16If I find something in them that is an obstacle,

00:18it's because there's something in me

00:20that has yet to be transformed.

00:22I just don't get it.

00:25The person that you do not think could ever be virtuous,

00:27whoa, let me show you.

00:28This is the person who is fulfilling

00:30the law and the prophets.

00:31But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,

00:34and all these things shall be added to you as well.

00:36I don't believe in that promise.

00:37I'll just be honest at this point.

00:39That has not been part of my experience.

00:41This parable, I've been trying to understand forever.

00:44While we were talking and while we were sitting there,

00:46then it hit me, I saw it.

00:47Name me one ideology that has supplanted Christianity

00:51that has done good for humanity.

00:54This Jew is very frightened of a post-Christian society.

00:58He was the God-man, the model, the example

01:00of what we ought to become and what we can become.

01:03It's okay, it's safe for you

01:05and all of your doubts and apprehensions

01:07to open up and to let these stories in.

01:10He is the temple, he is the Torah, he is the covenant,

01:13he is prophecy fulfilled.

01:15If you're doing this and it isn't also the love of wisdom,

01:18it's also an attempt at wisdom without love.

01:20In both ways, you're going radically wrong.

01:22Power of love.

01:23It sounds so cliche when you say it.

01:24I'm 60, man.
