00:00Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland agreed to withdraw from the Ottawa Convention, an

00:07international treaty banning anti-personnel mines.

00:11The decision comes in response to growing concerns over Russia's growing military threat

00:16to its neighbouring countries.

00:18Latvia's Prime Minister Evika Silina said a draft would be submitted next week to the

00:22Parliament, who have to make the final decision.

00:25We will not be the first or the last country to withdraw from this Convention.

00:29And that is why today, after four Ministers' decisions, we are happy in the Cabinet of Ministers

00:35that we have started the process so that we can withdraw from the Ottawa Convention and

00:40leave the Ministry until next week in the Cabinet of Ministers' seat.

00:44Lithuania's Defence Minister Dovilišek Alina said the joint decision sent a strong political signal.

00:51As all the Defence Ministers of the entire region at one point sent a single message,

00:57it seems to me that it is much more logical to know how we are going to look at withdrawing

01:02and our own defence.

01:03Finland could be the next to withdraw, having previously said they were also considering

01:07leaving the treaty due to Russia's use of anti-personnel mines in Ukraine.
