13:25Oh, my.
13:26Oh, my.
13:27Oh, my.
13:28Oh, my.
13:29So I bought it.
13:30Oh, my.
13:31Oh, my.
13:32Yes, and it takes a long time to wrap.
13:34So when I bought it, it was already wrapped.
13:37Or maybe that's why in all the stores...
13:40How are you going to do it?
13:42You're going to cut it, right?
13:46I'm going to be bullied.
13:48Mom, you cut it too short.
13:55Wait a minute.
13:56Wait a minute.
13:57When you wrap it, does it have a theme?
13:59Is it based on the occasion that you're giving it?
14:01Because, you know...
14:03It's a gift from someone you're giving it to.
14:06Is it supposed to be formal?
14:08No, it's pink.
14:10It's just for fun.
14:12So it's just a film that you're going to wrap based on the occasion.
14:15Based on the occasion, yes.
14:17You can also use a scarf instead of a wrapper.
14:20Scarf?
14:21Yes, a scarf.
14:22Mom, do you know that you can use a newspaper?
14:25It still looks good.
14:28Especially when you're giving out magazines or books.
14:31Just use a newspaper.
14:34There you go.
14:35It looks good, right?
14:36Mom, it looks good.
14:40You know how to do it, mom.
14:42Mom, put a ribbon on it.
14:44I have a style.
14:45It's actually ice.
14:48There's also color coordination.
14:50Mom, it looks like a kid.
14:52Look, it looks good.
14:53Okay.
14:55You're good at it.
14:57You're good at it.
14:58Because I don't have a person who's good at art.
15:02What's going to happen now, mom?
15:03Here it is, mom.
15:06Did someone teach you how to wrap, mom?
15:08No, I just saw it.
15:09When you go to the store,
15:12you can see that they're wrapping the gift, right?
15:15Yes.
15:16You're really good at wrapping.
15:19No, Chris and Kino are both good at wrapping.
15:23He really likes the gift.
15:25He thinks it's beautiful and colorful.
15:27Yes.
15:29For kids, you can glue teddy bears on it.
15:38Mom, you hide the boxes and wrappers that you received.
15:41But it's beautiful.
15:42Yes.
15:43What if it's not?
15:44If it's not, you throw it away.
15:46If the box is beautiful, it's beautiful.
15:49I hope there's a card.
15:51If there's a card, you can put a teddy bear on it.
15:55That's it.
15:57And the next product is for Lucy.
16:03Of course, it's for mom and me.
16:06Look at mom's personality.
16:09The color is metallic green, gold, and yellow.
16:12And it's messy.
16:15You can say that mom wrapped it.
16:17But it's fun. It's not done yet.
16:18We still have to do it.
16:20But mom, thank you for being with us.
16:22Yes.
16:23When you come back, tell us more.
16:25It's an honor that you invited me.
16:28It's an honor that you came here, mom.
16:31And Wilma and I look good together.
16:33Black and white.
16:34Yeah, we're friends.
16:36Mom, I'll give it to you as a gift.
16:38Coffee and milk.
16:39Bye-bye.
16:42Thank you, mom.
16:43When we come back, we will learn.
16:45Mom, let's play first.
16:48When we come back, we will learn how to wrap gifts in different sizes and shapes.
16:52Stay with us.
17:13Joining us is a woman who is known to be very generous.
17:16Please welcome Ms. Christina Decena.
17:20Good evening.
17:22Good evening, ma'am.
17:23Basically, you have a rags-to-riches story.
17:26And that you are one of the most selfless people they know.
17:29Selfless persons they know.
17:31Tell us about your rags-to-riches story.
17:34We started in Tondo.
17:40I would only pay for my ride.
17:46And if I ride, I wouldn't be able to eat.
17:49So it was a choice of either riding or a ride home.
17:53A ride home, okay.
17:55If I used my money to eat, I wouldn't be able to ride anymore.
18:00Was it far to get there?
18:03From here to Makati.
18:06That's the distance.
18:07That far?
18:08Yes.
18:10So to make the long story short, you worked hard.
18:13Not right away.
18:14I worked hard.
18:15What was the reason why you worked hard?
18:19How did you overcome?
18:21I overcame hardship.
18:23Of course, I studied hard.
18:26So you really finished your studies?
18:28I finished college.
18:30BA Economics.
18:31Bachelor in Applied Economics.
18:34Then I started a business.
18:37What was your first business?
18:39Building and selling houses.
18:41You built and sold your first venture?
18:44When my father died, we got some money.
18:48That was 1988.
18:50It was like money.
18:52It was like his pension.
18:55My mother saved it.
18:56I borrowed it from her.
18:58We bought a small lot with a house.
19:02I fixed it.
19:03That's how it started.
19:05So you were like the breadwinner of your family.
19:08What was your business?
19:09I hope you don't mind me asking.
19:11I was the owner of Christina Homes.
19:13Oh, Christina Homes.
19:15Soplada?
19:17So you didn't stop at your first venture.
19:20You continued it.
19:22It was a business I knew.
19:24I was happy with it.
19:25You built and sold.
19:27I was able to make money here.
19:29I didn't leave that business until now.
19:32What was the best gift you rewarded yourself
19:35after the long journey going to make Christina Homes?
19:40Of course, the best house I built is where I will live.
19:44With my children.
19:46With your children.
19:48It's like you got what you really want in life.
19:52Is there anything else that you want
19:53that you still don't have?
19:55Of course, when you live in a beautiful house,
19:58like a mansion,
20:00where you can see all the beautiful things,
20:02you also think that your family should be complete.
20:05That's all I ask for in my life now.
20:10In God's time,
20:12I will find the person I can be with
20:15and I will be with him in my journey.
20:17You haven't found him yet?
20:19Not yet.
20:21Why?
20:23Okay, we can share that.
20:25I will be with you when you cry.
20:27Wait a minute.
20:29You don't have a husband?
20:31Because I'm a single parent now.
20:33How many kids do you have?
20:35Five.
20:37Of course, because of the changes I went through in life,
20:41this time, when I fell in love,
20:47I wanted the right man.
20:49So you're not in a relationship now?
20:51No.
20:53Don't be.
20:55She's crying.
20:57She's crying.
20:59She's tearing up.
21:01She's tearing up.
21:03I'm tearing up.
21:05Christina Holmes.
21:07So that's the only thing that's missing.
21:09Yes.
21:11That's the only thing that's missing from Wilma.
21:13You'll find that too.
21:15Generous souls like you,
21:17one day, you'll find that too.
21:19Thank you very much for being on the show, ma'am.
21:21We wish you more happiness.
21:23We hope you find your man.
21:25In God's time.
21:27Yes.
21:29All in God's plan and time.
21:32Just got promoted?
21:34Or just hurdled a stressful week?
21:36And you feel like rewarding yourself,
21:38friends and family with an out-of-town travel?
21:40Great idea!
21:42Pack your bags and escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
21:44Here are three best out-of-town destinations in the country
21:47for you to choose from.
21:49Just over an hour away from Manila
21:51is the historic island of Corredor.
21:53The structures and tunnels one cannot help
21:55but relive our heroes' exploits in the old war.
21:58Then unmarvel at nature's grandeur
22:00from the sea to the majestic mountains around.
22:03For a more adventurous trip,
22:05take your friends to a trek to Mount Pinatubo's lovely crater.
22:08Getting to the top is an extraordinary experience
22:11as you will feel like you're on the moon's surface.
22:14But upon reaching the crater and seeing the lake,
22:17a silent admiration of this wonder lingers.
22:20But if you are more attracted to water
22:21than Anilao in Batangas is just perfect for you.
22:24Enjoy the water lapping at your feet
22:26while getting a good dose of tan from the sun.
22:29A great reward for one's self indeed.
22:31So pack your bags now and embark on the trip.
22:34Treat yourself because you deserve it.
22:38Okay, earlier we saw how to wrap in a simple way.
22:41Now, it's a bit more difficult with shapes.
22:44There are different shapes.
22:46There are small ones, there are round ones.
22:48That's what we're going to wrap.
22:49And of course,
22:51we will be joined by a cute little girl.
22:55This is the Batch 4 Ultimate Love Team
22:59which is none other than Ms. Chris Berman.
23:02Hello everyone!
23:04This is her second time here.
23:06This time, she doesn't have a boyfriend.
23:09Okay, let's start.
23:11How do we wrap this?
23:13For example,
23:15you want to wrap it like this.
23:16And then,
23:18you need to wrap it in a circle.
23:20Extra challenge.
23:22It's going to be really difficult.
23:24You're going to do this.
23:26I'll just start and you'll finish it.
23:28Wait a minute.
23:30Chris, what's the sweetest gift you've received from Mart?
23:33Actually, I always give him gifts.
23:35Like what?
23:37Chocolates.
23:39Wow!
23:41Wow!
23:43So, do you also give him gifts?
23:44No, not really.
23:46Why?
23:48Why?
23:50I give him gifts, but of course,
23:52he should give me more gifts.
23:54That's good.
23:56So, wait a minute.
23:58What do you want to receive?
24:00I don't want to look at the price.
24:03I want to look at what I'm working hard for.
24:06Like?
24:08Wrap it in a circle.
24:10Yes, the big one.
24:11You know,
24:13so that you'll know how hard it is to wrap a biscuit,
24:15give it to him.
24:17You're being nosy again.
24:19No, I'll just start.
24:21You're being nosy again.
24:23Okay.
24:25Do you know what you're going to do next, Chris?
24:27Wil wants to give you something.
24:29So, what's next?
24:31There.
24:33That's what you're going to do here tonight.
24:35There.
24:37Oh, don't.
24:39Is it like this?
24:41I told you.
24:43I'll just cut it.
24:45No, you'll do it.
24:47There.
24:49What if it's a nice box like this?
24:51Should I just put a ribbon?
24:53Just pass it through the ribbon.
24:55So, look at this.
24:57It's not flat.
24:59It's the one you're going to wrap.
25:01So that you'll be able to pleat it.
25:03Ah, so pleating, pleating.
25:05So, while you're pleating,
25:07do you really have to do this?
25:09No.
25:11Okay, you finish it.
25:13You should pleat it completely
25:15until you can wrap it.
25:17I hope I get it.
25:19Yes, you'll get it.
25:21She'll scold you if you don't get it.
25:23If I don't get it?
25:25Yes, because I'm like that.
25:27Then, for example,
25:29where are you going to wrap the other one?
25:31The round necklace.
25:33I'll tape it first.
25:35Here, here.
25:37There.
25:39For example, this one.
25:41Oh no, we're two.
25:43We're two.
25:45Like this?
25:47Hold it flat like this.
25:49Then, you'll pull this.
25:51Then, where it's going to fold,
25:53that's the plate.
25:55Okay, so I'll make it flat first.
25:57Just make it flat.
25:59Then, this one.
26:01Wilma, you'll wrap this.
26:03Don't make me do it.
26:05No, just wait.
26:07Come on, you can do it.
26:09What's the material?
26:11Napkin.
26:13The color is nice.
26:15Then, this is your wrapper.
26:18This one?
26:20Napkin.
26:22How do you do it?
26:24Don't make me do it.
26:26You're underestimating me again.
26:28Don't.
26:30There, you can do it.
26:32Oh God, like this?
26:34It's fast.
26:36Hold it.
26:38It's like I'm just wrapping something.
26:40Make it nice.
26:42There, then.
26:44That's it.
26:47You know, I think there are women who are fond of this.
26:54So, how do you do it?
26:56You just wrap it like a big lumpia.
26:58Then, you'll put it in a clear plastic.
27:00Hold on, we need more.
27:02Can I put something else in here?
27:04Yes, you can.
27:06Where does it fit?
27:07Here.
27:09Do you want us to put this together, Lucy?
27:11I know, I know.
27:13Let's put this together.
27:15I don't want that.
27:17She doesn't want it.
27:19Let's put it in a box and add a butterfly.
27:21This is it.
27:23Come here.
27:25When you're wrapping necklaces,
27:27Just to make it bigger.
27:29You need tissue and Japanese paper.
27:31And then, just to make it bigger, add clear plastic.
27:35Just put it like this.
27:37Add lace.
27:39And then, it has ears, right?
27:42Yes.
27:44You wrap it like this.
27:46What kind of ribbon do you want?
27:52This one is nice.
27:54Okay.
27:58There, you're good.
28:00See, I told you.
28:01Put the ribbon here.
28:03Cut it, of course.
28:06And then,
28:08Since it has ears,
28:10What will happen to the ears?
28:12Let's remove the ears.
28:14I thought you were going to put a design on the ears.
28:16You're going to put it there.
28:18Hey, you're ruining it.
28:20Hey, not yet.
28:22Okay, you do it.
28:26Hey, not yet.
28:28This is still okay.
28:29No, you're ruining it.
28:31No, you're ruining it.
28:33Ma'am, look what you did to the other one.
28:35If you fix it, you'll be famous.
28:37You're ruining it.
28:39Okay, I'll fix it.
28:41I hope so.
28:43There, and then,
28:45So that it doesn't look sad,
28:47You know the ones that you can buy at the kitchen?
28:50Cute, but cheap.
28:52Come, I'll tie it.
28:54Lucy, help your son.
28:56Let's put a ribbon.
28:57Let's put a ribbon.
29:01When in doubt, put a lot of ribbons.
29:05Chris, what did I do to you?
29:08I sweated on that.
29:11Oh, Chris,
29:13It looks like you're going to take a long time to come back to our show
29:15Because you broke the paper.
29:17Don't do that.
29:20No, we can do this, Chris.
29:22Wait.
29:24It's a good thing that Manuel is here.
29:25There it is.
29:27Simple.
29:29Here, just flatten it like this.
29:32Okay, then get a circle.
29:35Huh?
29:37You're going to make a circle?
29:39Yes.
29:41Oh, that's great. Don't make a circle.
29:43You're not good at it.
29:45You really have a sound factor.
29:47No, it's too big.
29:51There, then stick it.
29:53It needs tape.
29:55Okay.
29:57So it won't be visible.
29:59Now, Chris, do the other side while we take a break, okay?
30:02Oh, it's still open.
30:04But for the meantime, here's the necklace.
30:06Okay, here's the necklace.
30:08Let's put a name on it.
30:11Okay.
30:13And when we return, we will be joined by our guest whose gift of love
30:16Meant stepping out of her comfort zone.
30:18Stay tuned.
30:25At her age, she's supposed to be out in the malls with her friends,
30:27but she chose instead to spend her time
30:29in the impoverished village of Baseco.
30:31Please welcome on the show,
30:33Alexandra Amanda Madrigal-Eduque,
30:35better known as Alex.
30:37Welcome to the show, Alex.
30:39Thank you for being here.
30:41I'm so glad to be here.
30:43I'm so glad to be here.
30:45I'm so glad to be here.
30:47I'm so glad to be here.
30:49I'm so glad to be here.
30:51I'm so glad to be here.
30:53I'm so glad to be here.
30:55I'm so glad to be here.
30:57Thank you for having me.
30:59It's wonderful to see such young people
31:01already so charitable.
31:03Yeah, I know.
31:05How did you get into it?
31:07It started out actually as a school project
31:09and we were all assigned to be in different sites.
31:12So, it just so coincidentally happened that I ended up in Habitat.
31:15That was actually in Cavite.
31:17In Cavite? Okay.
31:19But then I liked it so much,
31:21so then I asked my mom if there's any way I can help.
31:22for a week.
31:23So parang nabitin ako.
31:24Sabi ko-
31:25What did you have to do for that one week?
31:26Build houses?
31:27Yeah.
31:28We built houses.
31:29We made hollow blocks.
31:30Is that the habitat for humanity, right?
31:31Yeah.
31:32And then?
31:33So parang nabitin ako.
31:34So then I'm like, if you just help for a week, yes, you make a difference in people's lives,
31:37but not enough to actually make a substantial difference for them to remember you.
31:43So I said, can I help in my summer instead of like bombing around in the house?
31:48So you spent your whole summer building houses or helping build houses?
31:51Yeah.
31:52Amazing.
31:53So that's what I did.
31:54And then the other thing-
31:55Di ba siya nakakapagod?
31:56Like, you know, kasi I remember ka may isang araw lang talaga ako, nakakapagod, kasi
32:00di ba, you're doing the man thing, like carpentero.
32:03You did carpentry work?
32:04Yeah.
32:05As in lifting everything.
32:06Nakakapagod siya in the beginning.
32:07Same pagkahanong ng simento, di ba?
32:10Nakakapagod siya in the beginning, but seeing the results after, seeing the walls go up,
32:15seeing the smiles on the people's faces, nawawala pagod mo.
32:18It works like-
32:20It works like, ano, it works like gawad kalinga, the people who live in the house actually
32:27help you guys make the house also, build the house.
32:30Opo, kasi pa to get a house, Habitat has a no-doll-out policy, which means to get their
32:36houses, they also have to give sweat equity work, and like money, I think broken down
32:41each month, so that they can afford the homes.
32:44Which I personally believe is a good moral to be instilled in them because it was instilled
32:48in me as well that to get something you want, you have to work hard for it.
32:52And if you just give it to them, they won't appreciate it.
32:55Appreciate it, yes.
32:56It's just like the money you earn.
32:59Once you start working, you really feel, you really know how it feels to spend the money
33:03and you're more, you make wiser decisions.
33:07Same way here.
33:09Yeah.
33:10It's basically, I was raised in a family that taught me I have to work for what I get.
33:16Even if you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you were never spoiled.
33:21Never.
33:22I have an allowance every week, and if I can't live with my allowance too bad, I go hungry
33:26in school.
33:27Even until now, you have an allowance?
33:28Yeah.
33:29So what did you learn about giving?
33:31I learned that it's not enough to give.
33:34You have to have the heart for it, the passion, because anyone can just give anything, and
33:38it can mean anything in props, but when you give it with a heart, that's when you know
33:42that you've made a difference.
33:45This kid is smart.
33:47I like it.
33:48What are your vitamins when you were a kid?
33:50I'd like to know.
33:51In the research, it says that when you celebrated your 16th birthday, instead of a party, or
33:57you know, traveling, or asking for jewelry, you ask your mom to donate houses.
34:03Yeah, I think it's the fact that I spent a month in a community with these people.
34:07Every day seeing them, somehow you get attached to them, right?
34:09Yes.
34:11So you actually became close to the people, or you actually know the people there.
34:14Yeah, I do.
34:15And then?
34:16I did have a party, but instead, my mom asked me what I wanted for a gift, because it was
34:20my sweet 16.
34:21Yeah.
34:22So I thought hard about it, and I said, if I ask for a gift, I'll feel guilty, because
34:26I have more than what I need for my daily necessities.
34:29So I said, instead of giving me any material thing, I'm not imposing the amount, but give
34:33enough to Habitat Baseco, I specified, because I love them from the bottom of my heart.
34:39Give enough to build at least one house.
34:41Okay.
34:42And maybe my mom saw that I did fall in love with the project, and supported me, and they
34:46gave enough to build four houses for Baseco.
34:49Wow.
34:50Are you inviting your friends?
34:52Have you asked any of your friends to do the same?
34:56Not necessarily donating, but maybe spending time with the people there, and helping build
35:02houses also?
35:03I'm not only inviting my friends, I'm inviting everyone.
35:05You two, if you have spare time.
35:07Yes.
35:08It's not all about the money, po.
35:09What it's about is about the heart to give to charity, the heart to give your hours.
35:13Because when you talk to these people, you realize that, yes, you give the cash, but
35:17the cash gets to the office.
35:18What gets to the people is your presence.
35:21Yes.
35:22And you're sharing time with them, and they do appreciate it more than you realize they
35:26do.
35:27And that's what keeps me going.
35:28Wonderful.
35:29Thank you, Alex.
35:31Your parents raised you well.
35:32Thank you, po.
35:33I hope there would be more kids like you.
35:35Thank you very much for being on the show.
35:36Thank you, Alex.
35:37And we hope to have you again.
35:38Oh, I'm honored.
35:40And by then, we don't know how many houses you would have built already.
35:43We look forward to that.
35:45Anyway, let's be more inspired and watch the story of Gawad Kalingas' Dylan Wilk.
35:50Hi, my name is Dylan Wilk.
35:52And before I came to the Philippines, I used to run a computer game business in Europe.
35:56But four years ago, I remember lying awake one night on my bed, and I was wondering why
36:01even though I had everything I could dream of, somehow my life wasn't fulfilled.
36:05And I felt empty inside.
36:07And I started to pray, Lord, why am I rich?
36:10There must be a reason why you blessed me like this.
36:12And so I changed direction with my life.
36:15I sold my business.
36:16I started to travel the world looking for charities that I could help.
36:19And a Filipina friend of mine told me about Gawad Kalinga.
36:22So I came here to the Philippines to see for myself.
36:25After I saw Gawad Kalinga, I went back to England really shocked.
36:29Because for the first time, somebody had shown me a place that used to be a slum
36:33that was now a beautiful, peaceful community.
36:36And I realized after looking at it that it's like looking at a little piece of heaven,
36:41a vision of what the Philippines can become.
36:43And so I went back to England, and the first thing I saw was the brand new BMW
36:48that I just bought a few weeks before that.
36:50And when I first saw it, I really felt sick.
36:53Because I suddenly realized this one car is worth about 80 houses in the Philippines.
36:59And so I decided to sell it.
37:01I sent an email to Tony Meloto, the head of Gawad Kalinga.
37:05And I said, I'd like to send you this money. Where should I send it?
37:08And he said, please don't send your money.
37:10If you're really interested in helping, please come back and put your love for this country into action.
37:16So he challenged me, and I sold the car.
37:19It came back. That was April 2003, four years ago.
37:22And I'm still here now.
37:23When I first sold the car, I'll admit that for a few weeks I really felt depressed.
37:29And I really felt sorry for myself.
37:30Every time I would see a nice car or somebody driving past,
37:33then I would think of my old cars and dream of them again.
37:36But after a few weeks, that wore off.
37:39And what made the difference was when I started to see the GK homes being built,
37:43I could see people's lives being changed.
37:45And I no longer felt the pain of parting with my cars,
37:49and I just felt the joy of giving instead.
37:52Because I don't really see what I've done as a sacrifice.
37:56Because I've let go of a lot of luxurious things,
38:00but they've all been replaced by much better things here in the Philippines.
38:04I sold my car, and I gained a wife.
38:06I let go of my own country, and I gained a whole new country here in the Philippines.
38:10I've learned so much from Filipinos.
38:12Coming here, at first I thought I was coming to help.
38:15But Filipinos have taught me so much about family, about relationships, about caring for one another.
38:21And I really thank God every day for bringing me to the Philippines.
38:24I really look at the Philippines as God's greatest gift to me.
38:27There's only one thing that I'd like to ask from all of you.
38:30And it's to please love this country, and really put that love into action.
38:35Don't let it be a selfish form of love where you just try to build the best life for yourself and for your family,
38:41but ignore the millions of Filipinos around you who are in need.
38:44But let's really put our love into action.
38:46House after house, slum after slum, the Philippines is starting to change right now.
38:51And if you really want hope for this country, just visit Agauad Kalinga Village.
38:55Look at the promised land, the vision of what the whole Philippines can become,
38:59and become a living hero for this country.

42:29And what is yours?
42:32I just want to say that it's so nice to receive a gift, especially when it's wrapped nicely.
42:37For me, I learned in the show that generosity is really a gift that keeps on giving.
42:43Let's not be afraid to give or let's not be afraid to share because it's a cycle.
42:50If you don't cut the giving, you won't be able to cut the receiving.
42:56It's that simple.
42:57Oh, yes.
42:59I got teary-eyed again.
43:01I should've counted how many times I cried in one episode.
43:04Don't be like that.
43:05Let's not do that.
