00:00Today saw the end, the conclusion of the two sessions where thousands of people
00:04had gathered from around China to set the course for development in the
00:08country in the year ahead. Now in the last week we've heard about the setting
00:12of a growth target of 5% growth in GDP, we've heard about setting targets for
00:17jobs, urban employment, 12 million new jobs. We've heard about the continuing
00:22development of China's modernization through social welfare programs that are
00:26targeting the for the elderly, for the young in China and also plans to
00:30stimulate domestic demand and consumption while stabilizing China's
00:35property market. So another focus of the of the week was undoubtedly technology
00:41that was absolutely a big focus of this year's two sessions. China positioning
00:46itself as a global leader in technology fields from quantum computing to
00:50biotechnology and of course artificial intelligence and robotics. Despite the
00:55challenges that they've faced in the past they said they're planning to grow
00:58new talent, encourage creativity and innovation in the high-tech field to
01:03serve the world in the years to come. We heard plans for the first ever private
01:08sector promotion laws so that will create even more favorable conditions
01:12for the private sector. We also heard about plans to open up and reform for
01:17more foreign investment into China and of course enhancements to environmental
01:21laws. We heard about this new constitution for the environment, the
01:24environmental code during this year's two sessions. So so much in the year 2025
01:29marks also the conclusion 2021 to 2025 is the 14th five-year plan. So we're
01:36going to look forward after this two sessions to the next five-year plan and
01:40this certainly is laying the path for modernization for China in the years
01:44ahead. Jen this can seem rather opaque for outside viewers. You've been watching
01:50the two sessions. What are your impressions? Yes I must say that for me
01:57my biggest impression was actually being in the Great Hall of the People and
02:00seeing the thousands of people who've come together from such diverse walks of
02:04life, different business people, academics on you know entrepreneurs, innovators,
02:09tech giants, CEOs coming together to make plans and proposals for laws in the
02:14country. It's been absolutely fascinating to see this grassroots level democracy
02:18that was taking place. I've never seen anything like it and certainly it's
02:22unique in the world. And for us also visiting some of China's factories we
02:27we've been around before the two sessions to see new electric vehicle
02:31factories including in Guangzhou where we saw GAC Ion's lighthouse factory and
02:35the processes of automation, the green technology that's being employed there
02:39and robotics. We had the chance to travel to Shenzhen to meet with Engine AI who
02:44are developing humanoid robots. So it's certainly an exciting period for
02:48technology, for innovation in China. That's something that I'll definitely
02:51take away from this year's two sessions. For me and all the journalists that I've
02:55spoken to it really has been a highlight to see China leading in these areas in
02:59the world in innovation and technology. So certainly there's a lot to look
03:03forward to in the years ahead.
