Expert warns of environmental impact of cargo crash

A leading maritime expert says the potential environmental impact of Monday’s collision between an oil tanker and container ship in the North Sea is "significant". Tomas Alexa from Ambrey Intelligence, also says evidence suggests there was "no attempt made to slow down" before the collision.  Report by Kennedyl. 00:00Images out there, both vessels on fire, the potential for environmental impact is significant.

00:07So we looked at AIS data and it showed that the Stena vessel was transiting from Greece

00:15and arrived at the anchorage on the 9th and at approximately 18.00 dropped an anchor.

00:20The Solong was travelling from Scotland towards Netherlands

00:25when at approximately 10.00am this morning it collided with the Stena vessel.

00:29It collided at its cruising speed of 15 knots, somewhere between 15 to 16 knots.

00:35The evidence indicates that there was no attempt to slow down or evade.
