00:00Something to learn from Pehalad?

00:05You see he had blood relations, very intimate relations with the king.

00:09The king was his father.

00:11But he kept the truth and real godliness above all relations of the body and blood.

00:19It's a great learning in detachment.

00:22It's a great learning in truth.

00:24No relation of the body, no relation of the blood is higher than the one fundamental relation

00:29we have with the truth.

00:31Look at Pehalad.

00:32He says, I do not care so much for my father, I rather care for the truth.

00:41And it's such a great and difficult thing to say.

00:46But Pehalad did that and that's why you have this timeless festival now.

00:52It's continuing since such a long time, centuries after centuries we see it.

01:03We have so many relationships, no relationships should be kept higher than the one central

01:09relationship we have with our real father.

01:14Bodily relations are no comparison to our fundamental relation with the heart, with

01:21the truth, with God if you want.

01:30Yes Holika, not to miss out on her.

01:40Smart woman, no?

01:43Smart woman with extraordinary powers.

01:47And it's her smartness that brought her to flames.

01:52That's a very important message to be remembered.

01:58The more smart you are, the more clever you are, the more are the chances that your own

02:06smartness will destroy you.

02:10It's very important to see when cleverness turns into cunningness.

02:19And that happens very frequently, very easily, very unnoticeably, you do not even know when

02:24you have turned cunning.

02:27If you are cunning, your own powers will destroy you.

02:33God turned Holika into ash.

02:37Her own plans, her own designs, she thought she was being smart.

02:42She thought she would succeed.

02:47She thought it's Prahlad who would be killed and see what happened.

02:53She got killed.

02:54Smartness got killed.

02:55Smartness turned out to be quite dumb.

03:08And one last thing about nursing.

03:12God is cleverer than the cleverest.

03:15You might think that you have nailed it.

03:17You might think that, you know, neither day nor night.

03:21God says what about dawn and dusk?

03:23They are neither day nor night.

03:26So you might be clever.

03:27God is cleverer than you.

03:29Do not use the powers you have from God against God himself.

03:39Remember that he is the one, he is the father, he is the boss.

03:44You are not.

03:46Do not try to act too smart, too clever.

03:52Do not be ungrateful.

03:56You might be powerful.

03:58Remember that your powers are coming from him, he is the source.

04:02And the source would always be more abundant than the ones who are receiving from the source.

04:10So whatever you have, whatsoever the ego has, is nothing in comparison to the source from

04:17where the ego comes, from the entire world comes.

04:28If we are smart, then God is the smartest one.

04:31He can take any route.

04:33He will come up with any method.

04:37But the ego would certainly be defeated.

04:40So that's the motive, that's the theme behind Holi.

04:48Of course, you will not see this central idea so much in action.

04:55Mostly what you would see is a lot of jubilant, even raucous celebration, loudness, garish

05:09movements and all that is quite enjoyable, quite fun.

05:14That's the remarkable thing about Holi, that's what makes Holi so singularly special.

05:21But do remember that it's not just about colours and having fun.

05:30The symbolism runs very, very deep and we would do well to remember what the whole thing

05:35is really about.
