00:00A 12-hour operation to defuse an unexploded World War II-era bomb near France's busiest
00:05train station was completed successfully.
00:08In the early hours of Friday, French railway operator SNCF uncovered an object they suspected
00:13was a bomb near the tracks leading to Paris's Gare du Nord station.
00:17We have a team that moved immediately and we identified that it was an English bomb
00:24weighing 500 kilos, an excessively dangerous object.
00:28The defusal operation, which police decided to conduct on-site, has caused hours-long
00:33delays and cancellations to travel.
00:35French authorities say some 500 trains were cancelled, impacting around 600,000 travelers
00:40in the Parisian station.
00:41But the station, servicing international Eurostar routes, has impacted more travelers than just
00:46within the French capital.
00:47They told us we had to get off at Brussels, and so now we're in line trying to figure
00:48out how to get to Paris.
00:49We're not sure how we're doing it yet, but we'd like to get there today if it's possible.
00:57The discovery of unexploded World War I and II bombs are not uncommon in France, but they're
01:02rarely found in urban and populous areas.
01:05Authorities are thankful a horrific tragedy was narrowly missed.
