Sadie Frost knew she wanted to document Twiggy: ‘Such an exciting, wonderful human being’

Director Sadie Frost wanted to celebrate Twiggy in her new documentary about the iconic model, actress, and singer who was dubbed “the face of 1966”.

00:00Well, Twiggy's such an exciting, wonderful human being. She's done so many things that

00:19people maybe do or don't know about, but I just wanted to document that and celebrate

00:23her life. So from the moment she kind of became a model and it all just, in 1966, it all just

00:29changed. She became the face of 1966. Right up until now, she's still relevant today,

00:34doing Charlotte Tilbury campaigns, on the cover of Vogue, still modelling, still being

00:39active recording albums. I just wanted to tell that story and celebrate women and celebrate

00:44her. I mean, I think in a way she's quite a private person and she was quite nervous

01:04about telling her story and people had asked her before, but there was a certain amount

01:09of trust between the two of us. We got to know each other. I mean, we knew each other

01:13from afar, but we weren't friends. So I'd kind of teased her when I was on her podcast

01:19when I was doing press for the Mary Quant documentary and I teased her just kind of

01:24on the spur of the moment and then we realised actually it could become a reality and then

01:29she rang me up and said, let's go for lunch, let's discuss it. And then the BBC got involved

01:34and then Film Soho and I had a really amazing team, producers, editors, felt so supported

01:41and the intuitive responded and I pushed her sometimes because she didn't want to reveal

01:46certain things, but you can't, you know, you have to kind of find your journey and your

01:51arc in a documentary and I think we did.

02:03You can do anything you want to do. You should never sacrifice your family. I think work

02:08is important, but your family is ultimately important as well and it doesn't matter, you

02:13know, she came from the wrong side of the track. She was one of the first working class

02:17models of that time and she did open doors for other working class young models and she

02:23just, she is always on that mood board or reminds people that you can do anything if

02:27you put your mind, there's always, there can always be a change.
