00:00An ex-senator warned that politicians should not play easy narratives when discussing rights over oil and gas resources in Sarawak.

00:11Sarawak National Authority Chairman Jaziri Alkaf Abdullah Sufian said,

00:16such narratives tend to diminish the contribution of Petronas and can affect the relationship between the federal government and the state.

00:25He told FMT that Sarawak Petroleum is not able to be independent without Petronas

00:30due to the lack of capacity and expertise required.

00:35Jaziri also emphasized that Sarawak needs to consider the desire to reclaim its original resources

00:40with its role in building a stronger country,

00:44reiterating that the country lacks talent and skills to be independent.

00:50Meanwhile, a lawyer said it was too easy to link the development of Sarawak

00:55with a low interest rate from Petronas.

00:58According to him, Sarawak is also facing problems such as lack of transparency, financial mismanagement and bribery.

01:05He explained that the export sharing model guaranteed under the Petroleum Act 1974

01:11is fairer than the concession model under the 1958 Oil Pound Ordinance.

01:19The lawyer who did not want to be known said,

01:22the PDA gives a greater return to the country,

01:25while the OMO allocates all resources to the concession holders

01:29with the country only receives royalties.

01:33Recently, several Sarawak leaders have opposed Petronas' ownership of hydrocarbon resources

01:41emphasizing that the OMO should be met or at least read along with the PDA.
