00:01We have this entire misunderstanding of what Darwin really meant when he said survival of the fittest.

00:07The whole earth is actually one cohesive system.

00:10Everything is interrelated to each other, it's self-balancing, and we are screwing up the balance.

00:23We're all trapped in this system, hustling for more money to buy more stuff that we know doesn't give us happiness

00:29in order to impress people they really don't even like. It's kind of insane.

00:34It's this incredible juggling act of the same materials over and over and over.

00:42But I had no idea what I was talking about was revolutionary.

00:49Life somehow always put me where there were interesting questions to answer.

00:56Anytime you design anything, what in the natural world has already solved what it is I'm trying to solve?

01:03The current system is linear. You make something, you use something, and you throw away something.

01:09Circularity, you're trying to keep everything in the loop. There's no waste.

01:14I began questioning the core premises of how the economy operates.

01:18This is a turning point that's more profound than you realize.

01:24You can imagine a solar manufacturer with a botanist who knows photosynthesis.

01:28Somebody who wants to make sustainable fiber sitting down with somebody who knows how a spider spins its web.

01:35Lots of things that we throw away, it just doesn't belong there.

01:40The idea of system change is to create a system that doesn't generate waste.

01:45The waste of one company can turn to the resources of another company.

01:51And if we can mimic nature on a small scale, why can't we do it big?

01:56We need to reimagine our place in the universe.
