Govt: We will stand on the side of consumers

Home Office Minister Lord Hanson says the government will "stand on the side" of consumers and those most affected by rising bills. His comments come after energy regulator Ofgem announced the latest energy price cap which could see household energy bills rise by more than £100 a year from Apirl.   Report by Faragt. 00:00The Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has this morning announced a package of measures which include a £150 grant to around 6 million people now,

00:07which will help with offsetting those energy costs that have increased because of the energy price cap increasing.

00:13The energy price cap has increased in part because of problems such as the Ukraine war which is impacting upon energy supplies.

00:20So the twin track of government is to ensure we reach a peaceful solution for the Ukraine conflict

00:25and at the same time support those who are most hardest hit by any potential rise in energy prices

00:31and this government will stand on the side of consumers, particularly those on the lowest incomes.
