00:00Hello and welcome to Watch Mojo Español, I am Yaki and for this list we will be seeing those cases
00:06in which a success has been pointed out as plagiarism of another.
00:10For this list, each entry will include a scandal related to a Latin artist
00:16that can be both the victim and the victimizer.
00:21Number 10, El Taxi.
00:23Pitbull, Osman y García, Sensato y Dayami, La Musa.
00:30El Taxi, released in 2015 with Pitbull, Osman y García in the lead,
00:40incorporates very clear elements of the successful Murder, She Wrote
00:44by the Jamaican duo Chacademus & Pliers, a 1992 reggae classic.
00:51The dancehall classic, considered by some critics as the most important theme in the genre,
00:57has actually been used multiple times as a base in hip-hop themes
01:01like Freaks by French Montana or Too Hot by Jason Derulo.
01:11As for the case of the production of Pitbull, according to Osman y García,
01:14the artists faced a complaint for the unauthorized use of the song,
01:19which was extrajudicially resolved through an economic agreement.
01:23As a result, Chacademus & Pliers were accredited as co-authors of El Taxi.
01:42Number 9, Miércoles, Panda.
01:54The Mexican band Panda has been noted for copying Anglo-speaking groups
02:00like Green Day and My Chemical Romance on more than one occasion.
02:05An example is Miércoles, which keeps similarities with Green Day's Dry Eyes,
02:10in which the verse is basically the same melody but a little faster.
02:24On the internet there are abundant videos that compare Panda songs with those of other bands,
02:30suggesting a plagiarism pattern.
02:32For its part, the members of the band have declared that although they are inspired by other artists,
02:37there have never been bad intentions when making music
02:41and that some things simply stay stuck in the unconscious.
02:53Believe me, I'm one of those who jumps when I hear something and I say,
02:57hey, that already sounds familiar to me.
02:58Number 8, Body Hoenn, Zum Himmel Reichen, Onah.
03:13Onah, a German pop star, released Body Hoenn, Zum Himmel Reichen in 2015,
03:19which presented many similarities with Ananau, from the Peruvian band Alborada,
03:25one of the most important representatives of contemporary Andean music.
03:39Ethnopop, for its part, is a genre that merges elements of pop music with ethnic sounds,
03:45often exotizing non-Western cultures.
03:48Alborada denounced Onah for plagiarism and won the case,
03:52which resulted in an economic compensation and the elimination of the song from streaming platforms.
03:59The theme of the German singer had been a huge success in her home country
04:04and it is speculated that Onah did not expect the Peruvian band to notice the unauthorized use of her music.
04:15Number 7, Marinero, Maluma.
04:32Marinero, released by Maluma in 2018, presents melodic similarities with Thank U, from GOT7,
04:39a South Korean K-Pop band.
04:42Although there was no formal complaint, GOT7 fans expressed their discontent on social media,
04:49using the hashtag JusticeForGOT7 to denounce the alleged plagiarism.
05:02Maluma, although she has declared her liking for K-Pop,
05:05seems to have ignored this situation since she never gave statements about it.
05:20Number 6, Amarte es un placer, Luis Miguel.
05:35Amarte es un placer
05:39In 2000, El Sol de México and Juan Carlos Calderón were accused of plagiarism by the composer Marcos Lipschitz,
05:46who claimed that Amarte es un placer, from 1999, derives from his composition Siento nuestro aliento, from 1997.
05:54Although Luis Miguel responded to the accusations with an amparo in 2007, a court failed in favor of Lipschitz,
06:02ordering Luis Miguel and Warner Music to pay 40% of the royalties of the song as compensation.
06:19Number 5, My Oh My, Camila Cabello.
06:32My Oh My, released by Camila Cabello in 2020, was pointed out for its similarity with Llaman a la Puerta, from Tierra Sur,
06:39a legendary Peruvian reggae band.
06:42Fans noticed the similarities and alerted the band,
06:45which through X, before Twitter, expressed caution about it,
06:49stating that they did not want to draw hasty conclusions.
07:02They speak like gringos
07:06Apparently, the conflict was resolved in a friendly way after the intervention of the band's legal team,
07:12and now Pochi Marambio appears as co-author of My Oh My.
07:21Number 4, Bailando, Enrique Iglesias.
07:32The success of Enrique Iglesias, released in 2014, was accused of plagiarizing Lejos de Ti,
07:38by the Peruvian composer Pelo D'Ambrosio.
07:51Although at first glance the similarities may not seem obvious,
07:55once reaching the end of the chorus of the song,
07:58the inspiration is more than clear.
08:21The theme of Ambrosio, for his part, is one of the most representative of the band's music.
08:27He has had more than 300 versions recorded by various artists,
08:31both from Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, among many others.
08:36Finally, the experts suggested to D'Ambrosio not to file a complaint,
08:40since the similarity resided in the arrangement and not in the melody.
08:44Finally, the artist decided not to proceed legally.
08:51Number 3, Mariposa Traicionera, Mana.
08:54The Peruvian composer Manuel Mantilla noticed at the beginning of the 2000s
08:58that the success of Mariposa Traicionera de Mana
09:01has very clear similarities with its success in the 70s, Traicionera.
09:07Mantilla, who had created versions in cumbia and bolero,
09:10being the latter the closest to Mana,
09:12expressed itsTONY with a very clear arrangement and melody.
09:16He recorded the songs, but it was not possible to be as similar as Mana,
09:20as the other three songs,
09:22but it is possible to find some similarities with Mana's songs.
09:31With the release of this first version,
09:33being the latter the closest to Maná, expressed his intention to at least start a conciliatory dialogue with the Mexican group about it before talking about plagiarism,
09:44although to date there is no evidence that the complaint has been formalized or that there was an arrangement between the parties.
09:522. Waka Waka, Shakira
10:03Waka Waka, this time for Africa, the official theme of the 2010 World Cup,
10:16performed by Shakira, generated controversy due to its clear use of Zangalewa, a 1986 song by the Cameroonian group Golden Sounds.
10:34Originally, this was a traditional song sung among Cameroonian soldiers, especially during the Second World War, as a motivational anthem in military marches.
10:45Before being officially recorded by Golden Sounds, becoming the great hit of the band.
10:51Although the original authorship was not recognized at first, public indignation, especially in Cameroon, led Shakira and her team to officially accredit the creators of Zangalewa as co-authors of Waka Waka.
11:05There was no legal demand, but the case highlighted the importance of cultural recognition in global music.
11:12That same year, Shakira was involved in another plagiarism scandal for the song Loca, a scandal that was resolved internally and involved the record company more than Shakira herself.

11:44Very well, let's go to the end.
11:46Number 1. La Lambada, Kaoma
11:56One of the most notorious plagiarism cases in the history of Latin music is that of La Lambada, performed by the Franco-Brazilian group Kaoma in 1989, which is actually a copy of Llorando se fue, a song by the Bolivian group Los Carcas released in 1981.
12:15The original song, in the rhythm of Zaya Andina, was already a success in South America, with several versions recorded before Kaoma took it without authorization.
12:25Kaoma was a group created with the purpose of conquering the European market, taking advantage of the boom of tropical music.
12:49The privatization of the radio in France allowed the label to promote La Lambada intensely, turning it into a global phenomenon.
12:57For Los Carcas, the success was a mixture of triumph and frustration, and their music reached Europe and Asia, but they also felt helpless due to the theft of their work.
13:07After a lawsuit, they managed to be recognized for their fair authorship and, of course, the gifts.
13:18Did you know any of these cases of plagiarism? Did we add any to our list? Tell us in the comments and don't forget to watch these other original videos of Watch Mojo Español.
