00:00The allies of the Duterte family went to the Supreme Court to ask for the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte to be stopped.
00:10However, the right process for this was not followed by the camera.
00:15Maki Pulido is the witness.
00:21Earlier, the allies of the Duterte family filed a petition in the Supreme Court.
00:26They asked for the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte to be stopped and for the Senate to ban it as well.
00:33This is part of a plan probably to eliminate her as a probable contender in the 2028 National Elections.
00:42Attorney Israelito Torrion said that the impeachment complaint was defective
00:46because it violated the provision that only one impeachment complaint can be filed against an official within a year.
00:54There were already three impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte by the camera
00:59and the one-year ban should have already been lifted.
01:01The fourth was the death of the verified impeachment complaint filed in the Senate.
01:06There were three priorly filed impeachment complaints and which were not acted upon in the Constitution.
01:14Specifically, Article 11, Section 3 thereof mandates that upon receipt of the impeachment complaint,
01:20the same should be included in the order of business within 10 session days
01:25and thereafter the speaker should have referred it to the Committee on Justice within three days.
01:31Vice President Duterte was also not given due process
01:35and the congressmen were not given the right time to study the impeachment complaint.
01:40There was only around three hours between 12 o'clock to 3.15
01:46before it was included in the additional house business reference
01:52and by that time we feel and we have reasons to believe that some of the congressmen
01:59were not even able to peruse the complaint as well as assess the evidences attached in the impeachment complaint.
02:07We are asking for a comment from the camera.
02:09The speaker of the Supreme Court said that they will immediately act on the petition.
02:14In these petitions, the Supreme Court acts on the matter by either requiring the parties to comment on the petition.
02:21Last Friday, another petition was filed to ask the Supreme Court
02:25to tell the Senate to immediately start the impeachment trial of Vice President Duterte.
02:29Earlier, the court told the Senate to comment on this within 10 days.
02:34It was treated as an urgent case and this is also obvious from the fact that the Supreme Court
02:40gave him a non-extendable period of 10 days to comment.
02:43Impeachment is a nationwide concern that will be treated with urgency because of the gravity of the matter.
02:51We are asking for a comment from the Senate.
02:54For GMA Integrated News, Macky Pulido reporting for 24 Hours.
