00:00The G20 summit in Delhi is over and it's turned out to be quite a success for India.
00:09On the diplomatic front, a Delhi declaration was adopted even on the tricky issue of Ukraine.
00:15Many experts believe that a consensus would not have been possible at this meeting simply
00:19because of all the differences between Russia and China on one hand and the West led by
00:24the US on the other, especially on the issue of Ukraine.
00:28However, consensus language was found and it's significant that it reflects India's
00:33position on the war in Ukraine.
00:35So there's no explicit mention of Russia or condemnation of Russia the way that there
00:40was in the Bali declaration of December 2022.
00:43The admission of the African Union into the G20 is also another significant diplomatic
00:48milestone that has happened under India's G20 presidency.
00:53The final big achievement for India also is the way that it has handled the G20 summit.
00:57There's been a lot of criticism from the opposition and critics of the Modi government over the
01:01past year that it's made the G20 presidency into some kind of tamasha.
01:06But one can argue that in fact, they have democratised the whole process.
01:10They've made what used to be a very stuffy meeting of technocrats in grey suits turn
01:15into something that has included people on a much bigger scale.
01:19So more than 200 meetings were organised in 60 cities.
01:23And the idea of calling it a people's movement in itself has resonated through the kind of
01:29messaging that the government has tried to send out.
01:31So it's actually changed the way the G20 presidency is looked at by ordinary people.
01:37And that too is a significant achievement for India.
