00:00Hi, I'm Petra Kaltenbach. I'm a fine artist, video artist, graphic designer and curator of World Art Dubai.
00:10Living in Dubai since 2004, that is when the transforming period of the city began.
00:19And I felt that this could be a theme which is really valuable for my art, so I've chosen this.
00:30And in the very beginning I started to work with sand because I had the feeling that it's quite an important issue here in Dubai.
00:41And also sand is already transformed either from a rock to sand or from snails or whatever.
00:53So that was quite a long time where I was working with and after a while I felt, okay, there must be something else.
01:04And I was searching for some new motives here. At first I thought it could be cats because also cats are quite often being seen here in Dubai and they're homeless and all these.
01:18But then I found the pomegranate and the pomegranate is very divine fruit, absolutely beautiful.
01:28It's talking about health and wealth and fertility and it's so divine.
01:36So I took this fruit into my art and started to project my transformative thoughts onto it.
01:45And this pomegranate appeared for the very first time in 2015.
01:53And that was also the time when I started to combine the QR technology with my art videos and the matching physical work.
02:07So I used the QR code to connect the physical work with the video art.
02:19And I noticed that it was a bit difficult, people didn't understand what it is about.
02:27And this problem was solved by COVID, I have to say.
02:33Nowadays everybody knows the QR code technology, but meanwhile I switched to AR, augmented reality, which is a little bit more sophisticated and more smart.
02:50People know me that I'm quite tech-savvy, so I'm always using technology since quite a while.
02:57And I started to create files in my computer and I'm combining them with my art.
03:05So I'm printing the digital files on my painted artworks or sometimes I'm also printing and then I'm painting.
03:15So it's always a mixture between the brush strokes, the physical brush strokes and a digital art.
03:22For this technology I'm using UV print, which led me to a sponsorship by Canon.
03:32You can see it here quite well, parts of it.
03:36For example, this dragonfly is quite printed and on this file I'm painting.
03:51Or I'm also using these dots here and the pomegranate is painted, so it's a real mixture between the digital and the physical.
04:06And nowadays I'm using, as I mentioned, the AR and I would like to demonstrate this to you now.
04:15Please download the RTVWay, it's a cost-free.
04:19Open it.
04:22And then, whoops, already done.
04:27As far as you scan the physical work or in this case it's a photo of the physical work, the art video is starting.
04:41So this visual is called Nur Ayni and it's talking about the light of my eyes, so that's the translation of Nur Ayni.
04:54And what you can see here is the fire running around the eye.
05:00For this NFT art video I'm using elements of my painting, filmed elements and also animated elements.
05:08What you will see here is when you scan it, it's a second artwork which is matching this painting.
05:17It's called Asal, sweet like honey.
05:21What you can see here is that the honey is already running out of the mouth and you just want to eat your loved one and feel how sweet it is.
05:33So just a short explanation about NFTs.
05:37What is NFT? I got this question from many people, so I have a very simple explanation.
05:45It's just a certificate of ownership.
05:49So if you want to buy a digital work and you upload it on a blockchain, then everyone can see who is the owner at the moment, for which price you want to sell it, when did you upload it.
06:07And if someone is coming and said yes I would like to buy it, this one can just buy it in Ethereum.
06:18And this you also will see on the blockchain.
06:22So it's a documented way of your digital work.
