00:00So, you have been a captain of Delhi. And you have seen how Delhi chased their target today.
00:11Like, they were chasing 137. But they did not do the same mistake that SRH or KKR did.
00:17If you have to give credit to Stephen Smith and Dhawan?
00:20100 percent. You know, and also in terms of selection.
00:24So, if you think back to… When I say selection, I am talking more about your batting order.
00:30Sending Steve Smith in at number 3 to kind of create a partnership. He has the experience.
00:35He has the know-how of how to play spin well. So, sending him at number 3.
00:40And just giving the team a good base. Because he scored 33 of 29. So, it is just above a runner ball.
00:47But on a surface like that, and also the context of the game, the nature of the wicket.
00:53You understand how important that 33 is. And obviously, Dhawan, he is the orange cap holder firstly.
01:00But also, what was a critical moment in that game was actually the strategic time-out.
01:06And that over after the strategic time-out, Chahar was bowling.
01:11And you saw that the left-hander made the decision. Obviously, based upon the conversation that they had in the time-out.
01:18To try and be the aggressor there. Because that was the perfect match-up for the left-hander.
01:23And you saw that he was trying to dominate and trying to make that a big over.
01:27Unfortunately, he got out. Yes. But in the context of the game and also the conditions and the match-up.
01:36I thought that was right thinking. And at times, you've got to ask yourself the question.
01:40There are two questions you have to ask when something doesn't go wrong.
01:44When something goes wrong, sorry. You've got to ask yourself.
01:46Was the thinking right? And was the execution right?
01:49So, if the thinking is right, you can handle the execution.
01:53Because that's something that you can practice. But if the thinking is wrong, that develops into a discussion.
01:59So, that was a great strategy from Delhi point of view. Trying to put the, sorry.
02:04Sort of give the punch back to Mumbai. Because they were kind of in the game at that point in time.
02:10There was a difference of 10 to 12 balls. And now all of a sudden, they're trying to get after it.
02:15So, that was a critical moment. And obviously, there was some jitters with losing that wicket of Dhawan.
02:21But in the end, I think it was Lalit Yadav and Shimran Hetmaya got them over the line.
02:26Which is always going to be a difficult chase on that kind of surface.
02:29So, you've got to take your hat off to them. Batting second and winning a game is never easy in Chennai.
02:35JP, you know what makes Mumbai franchise so, so very good?
02:39They have been dominating IPL after the time they started winning from 2013.
02:44What do you think as a player that makes them as a franchise so solid?
02:49Yeah, thanks Aniz. That's a good question. And first and foremost, let me say this.
02:53I think there's a family feel to them. So, when you get selected to play and represent Mumbai,
03:01you feel accepted and wanted within the environment. It doesn't matter what your pay packet is.
03:08There's an attention to you as a person, as a player. They give the same amount of respect
03:15and attention to the player that hasn't played a game as opposed to Rohit Sharma, the captain.
03:22There's no egos. The leadership there are very much one that's creating a good culture.
03:28And I think for any sustainable and successful environment and organization,
03:33even a team starts with a good culture. So, that's the first and foremost.
03:39And I think there's such an attention to detail when it comes to roles and responsibility for
03:46each and every player. So, there's a lot of homework and research that goes into the type
03:51of players they want. Making sure that the personalities match the players as well.
03:58So, that's the kind of research that they go through. And obviously,
04:01they've worked out a formula that works for them. There's a great group of experience as well as
04:07youth. And there's a great camaraderie within the management as well as the players. And obviously,
04:12we know that the owners, they're heavily involved in the culture and representing the team,
04:21particularly if they win or lose. There's a representation in that environment from the
04:26ownership and encouraging them, speaking to them. So, all these factors come into play.
04:32And I think, you know, just a well-oiled organization that have worked out a winning
04:38formula and have managed to sustain it for a long period of time. There's been some changes here and
04:43there when it comes to management, yes. But the core, from a player's perspective, has really stuck.
04:49Obviously, led by Rohit Sharma. And that is a recipe for great success going forward for them.
04:54You know, in the last four games in Chennai, they've stumbled but they've found a way to win.
04:59But today, it was something else.
05:02Yeah, it's a tough one. Because, you know, you look at the start that they had. And Surya Kumar Yadav
05:10and Rohit Sharma, the captain, they were building quite a good partnership. And if you look back to
05:15last year's successful tournament that they had, there was a big reliance on that middle order.
05:20The middle order was the engine room that really produced the goods for them. And unfortunately,
05:26they haven't been able to fire just yet. But the quality of the Pandya brothers, Pollard,
05:32you know that they're going to fire at some point. And that's something that,
05:37I was listening to Rohit Sharma in his post-match there. He was talking about understanding the
05:43surface and making smarter decisions. And obviously, you think back to last year,
05:48playing in the UAE. Obviously, the tracks were a little bit easier from a batting perspective.
05:54Obviously, playing in Chennai, we know what it's about. It's slow, it turns.
05:58The due factor plays a part as well. So yeah, they're going to need to have some hard
06:04conversations about a style of play. And also being able to address that middle order. Because
06:11as we know, that's the engine room. So it just allows that top order to play with freedom.
