00:00Manila. It's a metropolis with 25 million people, including the nearby provinces of
00:10Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal. That's equivalent to more than 60% of the entire
00:18population of Canada. Manila is the most densely populated region of the Philippines and the
00:24fifth most populous urban area in the world. On Monday, March 29th, 2021, a new lockdown
00:33was imposed. It's also the first day of Lenten week celebrated in Asia's only Catholic-majority
00:39country. The lockdown runs until April 4th, or Easter Sunday. In pre-COVID times, Easter
00:46is usually marked with special church services. At this time, no religious gatherings are
00:52allowed. The Philippines has reported more than 720,000 coronavirus cases, including
00:5813,170 deaths, making it one of the worst affected countries in Asia. The new lockdown
01:06was announced by presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, who himself had contracted the
