00:00Every year on November 3rd, the UAE celebrates Flag Day.

00:06The UAE flag was raised on December 2nd, 1971 for the first time ever by Sheikh Zayed bin

00:12Sultan Al Nahyan to mark the country's union.

00:14The flag consists of four colors, green, white, black, and red, which together represent the

00:20unity of Arabs.

00:21The flag was designed by a young Emirati, Abdallah Mohammed Al-Maniya, after seeing

00:26an advertisement about a competition to design it.

00:29He later went on to become the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

00:32So what do the colors mean?

00:34Red represents hardiness, bravery, strength, and courage.

00:37Green represents joy, hope, optimism, and love.

00:41White represents peace and honesty, while black, contrary to popular belief, does not

00:47represent oil.

00:48It stands for the defeat of enemies and also strength of mind.
