Philippines Animal Rights Group Celebrates Valentine's Day With Furry Companions

Animal rights activists in the Philippines are celebrating Valentine's Day by helping some stray dogs and cats find their forever homes.

00:00Valentine's Day. A day to spend with that special someone. But for an animal rights

00:08group in the Philippines, it's also a day to make a special connection of a different

00:13kind. This is The First Date, an event organized by the Philippine Animal Welfare Society or

00:20PAWS in Manila.

00:22The First Date is, we started out in 2018, basically to raise awareness for the shelters,

00:31for the shelter and to raise funds, and then to introduce also our adoptable animals to

00:36market them and hopefully find them loving homes.

00:40The facility cares for 250 dogs and cats. Most of them are survivors of abuse or neglect,

00:48making The First Date an important opportunity to give these animals a happy and loving future.

00:55Participants help socialize the animals, and can even decide to permanently adopt them.

01:00It helps to heal their trauma, yung sa mga pinagnaanan nila, and it helps them to be

01:06more sociable sa mga susunod and sa mga potential families na pupuntahan nila, forever home.

01:12For pet lovers, we have so much love to give, and I think yung apaw or yung sobra from the

01:19cup that we have for the love and passion, the compassion that we have for pets, these

01:26pets na nandito sa PAWS deserve that, or needed that, and even more.

01:34Though the organization only cares for a tiny portion of the over 13 million stray dogs

01:39and cats in the country, it can still make a big difference to the lives of the animals

01:45who meet that special human at The First Date.
